Position Summary:

Hercules Capital, Inc. (“Hercules”) is an internally managed, publicly traded BDC providing financing solutions to high-growth, innovative venture capital-backed and institutional-backed companies. Hercules and its wholly owned subsidiary, Hercules Adviser, manage over $3.9 billion of assets and aims to continue to expand and grow its operations. As a large-accelerated filer, Hercules is required to report and close accounting periods in accordance with a strict timeline and is subject to regular compliance, Sarbanes-Oxley controls and financial reporting audits. The Accounting Manager role will be a dynamic contributor supporting the operations of the publicly traded BDC. The Accounting Manager will oversee the monthly and quarterly accounting close process, guiding a team of 1-3 personnel to close the periods within set dates. As part of the close, the Accounting Manager would prepare and review schedules that support the BDC’s 10Q/K filings, as well as act as the point of contact for the BDC compliance, SOX, and UK statutory audits and various service providers.

Essential Responsibilities and Skills:

• Responsible for oversight, review, and preparation of monthly and quarterly accounting close
  • Requires an understanding of debt borrowing accounting, stock-based compensation accounting, lease accounting, intercompany transactions, foreign currency translation, and GAAP consolidation and analysis.
• Prepare and / or review key schedules supporting disclosures for the quarterly 10Q / 10K filings
  • Responsibilities include preparing and / or reviewing the statement of cash flows, NAV roll-forward, earnings per share calculations, financial highlights, control & affiliate schedules, performing a S-X 3-09 and 3-10 analysis, among other schedules.
• Oversee and serve as the primary point of contact for UK statutory reporting under UK GAAP, including management of Evelyn, LLP, our UK statutory bookkeeper, reviewing and reconciling UK stat reporting to US GAAP reporting, assisting the Tax Manager with VAT return filings and UK Corporate Tax accruals.
• Primary point of contact for internal and external auditors (Protiviti & PwC). The Accounting Manager will liaise with Protiviti and PwC to coordinate timing of testing of controls, walkthroughs, and assist in addressing and closing out matters raised by the auditors.
• Strong team player and requires good communication skills to ensure the BDC operations are closely coordinated with loan administration, reporting, tax, and Adviser Fund teams.
• Leverage technology, experience, and communications skills to work closely within Hercules to contribute towards various automation / finance transformation projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree required. CPA required.
• 5-7 years’ experience in accounting positions.
• Professional experience in a financial services environment preferred.
• Required to be hands-on and have strategic objective driven management, when required, with an ability to multi-task and work with teams based in different time zones.
• Experience with accounting systems (D365 preferred) and systems implementations.
• Ability to leverage technology to automate manually intensive processes.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Power Apps suite of tools, including Power Automate and Query.
• Familiarity with public reporting requirements and understanding of US GAAP.
