Job Summary:

The Assembly & Automation Installation Engineer will work on the development and deployment of automation solutions and initiatives across the Sabert manufacturing facilities, including all functions necessary to fabricate and machine new product prototypes and production tooling components as well as supporting the installation and optimization of automation equipment at the plants

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Automation project planning/management and vendor management

  • Develop/maintain project implementation plans, including project budgets
  • Request vendor quotes for automation projects
  • Obtain funding through Sabert’s capital and expense processes
  • Project manage automation deployments, including vendor management and invoice verification
  • Maintain awareness of vendor due dates and deadlines for automation projects

Materials management

  • Select, purchase and maintain inventory of automation project raw material in accordance with project timeline

Automation solution planning

  • Responsible for obtaining and maintaining accurate measurements of equipment for installations, including the development of associated Solidworks, CAD drawings, blueprints and/or sketches.
    • Participate in ideation, installation of automation solutions
  • Troubleshooting
    • Learn how to operate individual automation cells to assist with on-site and/or remote troubleshooting. Escalate and manage OEM automation supplier for trouble shooting support
  • Readouts
    • Participate in daily automation round table and weekly vendor management meetings
    • Daily automation round table responsibilities:
      • Review daily targets (project plan)
      • Status on material procurement as needed
      • Trouble shooting issues being addressed/status
    • Participate on bi-weekly plant automation readouts
  • Fabrication
    • Interface with designers, engineers, manufacturing and shop personnelWhen needed, perform all duties required to accurately set up machine, machine and fabricate/assembly of new products for the plastic thermoforming industry including but not limited to quality prototyping, assists, modifications, tool upgrades, repair of production tooling, test fixtures, jigs, to support the automation department and manufacturing.
    • Manual setup and operation of Bridgeport milling machines as needed
    • Manual setup and operation of horizontal lathes, table saw, drill press, and other equipment standard to a tool shop.
  • Capital Projects:
    • Identifies, plans and collaborates with executive leadership on opportunities to upgrade or optimize existing automation equipment with a goal of increased labor efficiency
  • General
    • Understands and follows all Sabert safety best practies. Insures automation vendors understand and adhere to Sabert safety standards
    • Work in accordance with all company policies and procedures regarding employment, safety, quality, product safety and legality, security, and regulatory compliance as applicable.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient?with computer modelling and analysis tools (SolidWorks,?AutoCAD)
  • Proficient in Allen-Bradley RSLogix, Siemens Step 7, FANUC or ABB robotics programming, Cognex, VFD setup and configuration
  • Prior experience in control systems
  • Able to read blueprints for assembly
  • Able to follow assembly instructions including: part setup, tool calibration, cutting parameters, file management, and file storage management.
  • Ability to design and fabricate plugs, assists, jigs, test components as requested.
  • Demonstrated skills in the execution of improvement projects, including equipment installations
  • Knowledge of mechanical installation, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems and/or chilled water systems
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical drawings including GDT
  • Working knowledge of industrial safety regulations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • General knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint

Q ualifications
Experience

  • High School degree; some college or related coursework and certifications with automation and robotics preferred
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in a machine shop or similar fabrication environment
  • Experience working with various robotics and related automation equipment, including the development and installation in a manufacturing environment

Work Environment

Our manufacturing plants are not environmentally controlled. Changes in humidity and temperature occur throughout the year. Although machine noise is constant, conditions are maintained within standards that meet OSHA mandated requirements.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Lifting 50 pounds occasionally.

Travel Requirements:

  • 20% estimated
