Job Summary

As a Business Process Engineer at Administrative Information Technology Services (AITS), you will be an integral part of the team that is developing and sustaining business process automations for a $7B university system. You will work within a team environment to design, develop, and support Business Process Automation solutions using technology platforms like iBPMS, workflow, RPA, Banner Document Management System (BDM), and AdobeSign. You will be involved in the fast-growing area of process automation, helping our customers focus on more value-added activities. Currently the suite of existing automations has helped our clients save more than 250,000 hours, and the demand for this technology is increasing within the UI System.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Become subject matter expert and develop business process automations according to global design patterns and functional specifications associated with any of the iBPMS, workflow, RPA, BDM, and AdobeSign platforms the BPA team supports. Provide estimates on level of effort to develop BPA solution. Develop BPA processes utilizing sound security practices and techniques. Develop BPA processes utilizing sound accessibility practices and techniques.
  • Within the scope of any automation project utilizing a BPA toolset, perform unit testing to verify that the steps accurate and complete. Support the integration tests and user acceptance tests to identify and correct issues with the given automation project. Document the implemented solutions.
  • Support production activities associated with any of the iBPMS, workflow, RPA, BDM, and AdobeSign platforms as needed. This may require evening or weekend hours, depending on the urgency of production issue. Provide as needed after-hours and weekend support for testing, configuration, and production maintenance for scheduled upgrades and outages.
  • Assist application administration team in architecting, installing, configuring, documenting, and maintaining the University's enterprise vended Business Process Automation applications (Nintex K2 Five, Automation Anywhere, BDM, AdobeSign). Interact with vendors regarding upgrades, patches, security updates, etc.
  • Manage and coordinate information systems problem solving, solution development, decision-making, knowledge documentation and participate in planning that will further the mission and vision of the current and future business environment. Keep informed of and apply contemporary technology related to BPA systems. Other duties as assigned appropriate for a Business Process Automation Engineer/Associate Business Process Engineer.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination totaling two (2) years from the following categories:

A. progressively more responsible work experience in an Information Technology (IT) related profession

B. college course work which included Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent: - 60 semester hours or Associate's Degree equals one (1) year - 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor's Degree equals two (2) years

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a technical field

1. Experience in software or application development (Ability to program in at least one programming language (preferably Java, .Net, Cold Fusion, iOS Development Suite, Android Development Suite, etc.)
2. Working knowledge of relational database concepts including structured queries using SQL and/or JDBC
3. Experience with web and/or application servers
4. Experience with markup languages such as HTML and/or XML
5. Experience with Robotics Process Automation (RPA) tools such as Automation Anywhere
6. Experience with Intelligent Business Process Management Suites (iBPMS) such as Nintex K2 Five
7. Experience with requirements gathering and business process improvement
8. Familiarity with University of Illinois systems and services
9. Technical knowledge working with the Ellucian Banner ERP system
10. Knowledge of User experience (UX) design principles
11. Knowledge of data security and privacy best practices and ensuring compliance for information systems

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5031 - Information Technology Technical Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 4/24/2023. Salary is commensurate with experience.
