About the Role

We are seeking a talented, hands-on Chemical Engineer to analyze, design, develop, and perform scale R&D lab to production phase while applying principles of chemistry such as - mass balance, and process flow, etc. The successful candidate will work on process development and optimization projects, initiatives related to extraction, refining and distillation to increase efficiency, improve sustainability, and maximize profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research to develop new and improved processes, conduct in-house laboratory tests to determine process parameters based on quality and efficiency needs of product and process.
  • Design, develop, and implement new processes, systems and equipment related to plant-based oil refinery extraction, solid/liquid filtration or separation, solvent recovery, and distillation
  • Evaluate process alternatives, create mass and energy balances, process flow diagrams and P&IDs to support objectives
  • Ability to build custom chemical-processing systems and troubleshoot equipment and related instrumentation.
  • Determine and document critical parameters related to new processes, pilot- to scale up trials.
  • Use bench-scale results and engineering design fundamentals to select and size equipment
  • Oversee pilot testing, using proper design criteria, collect experimental data to make sound decisions on scale up processes and equipment selections
  • Mechanical experience; as would be used in the conception, design, and fabrication of custom laboratory apparatus
  • Drive product and process conceptualization, development and scale-up
  • Contribute to technical advancement in cannabis processing

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering. M.S. a plus
  • 3+ years of process engineering experience involving process design within the food, dairy, beverage/brewery, life sciences, or similar industries
  • Experience with equipment sizing, selection, and commissioning.
  • Experience in extraction, liquid/solid filtration, solvent recovery, and distillation technology preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to design, model, optimize, and construct components for process & chemical refinement engineering systems
