About the Program:


World Resources Institute (WRI) is seeking a Climate Finance Research Consultant to support our work on climate finance in our global office for the period of February to June 2023. This consultancy can be part-time or full-time. WRI’s Finance Center aims to shift financial flows away from dangerous activities that fuel climate change towards solutions for an equitable, low-carbon, climate-resilient economy. The consultant to support our work with Ministries of Finance in 3 countries: Fiji, Guatemala, and India and the development of global research products. This is an ideal position for a graduate student looking for part-time research work or recent graduate of a similar profile.

Job Highlight:


In this role, you will support the Finance for Developing Country Climate Action team who recently published a report Paying for the Paris Agreement: A Primer on Government Options for Financing Nationally Determined Contributions. Building on the work of this report our team is developing additional policy briefs, videos, and engagement content for our key audience of Ministries of Finance and Ministries of Environment. We are seeking a consultant who can assistant in the development of these additional knowledge products through additional research, writing, and coordination. You will be supported by Finance for Developing Country Climate Action team and report to Molly Caldwell, Associate Climate Finance. This is a limited-term position with an end date of June 30, 2023.


What will you do:


Writing and Editing

  • Assist in the development of 10-15 (1 to 2 page) policy briefs that will be used by government officials to better understand the finance instruments available for implementing Nationally determined contributions.
  • Assist in the development of story boards for 5 educational videos on climate finance.


Research

  • Conduct research on the climate finance landscape on an as-needed basis, including on topics such as loss and damage finance requirements.

What will you need:

  • Education: You have a completed bachelor’s degree in public policy, economics, sustainability, environment studies or similar.
  • Experience: You have 6+ years of full time work experience
  • Professional experience in researching climate change mitigation and adaptation, climate finance, and environmental policy.
  • Interest in climate finance and/or climate change.
  • Detail-oriented, organized and independent thinker.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, alongside strong synthesis and strategic thinking skills.
  • Excellent research, writing, editing and oral communication skills.
  • Languages: Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization.

Potential Salary:

Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
