Description:SUMMARY
The Compliance Specialist will provide in-person support to the Texas UMP market’s compliance program including but not limited to HIPAA, Privacy and OSHA. Additionally, the Compliance Specialist will perform advanced administrative duties for the Director of Compliance and in support of the UMP compliance program. This position will support various main office functions including: preparing correspondence, preparation of presentations and maintenance of records and the practice’s compliance platform.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)

  • Maintain effective lines of communication that allow employees to report compliance concerns without retaliation. Assists with investigations and responses to violations and corrective actions for reports of alleged noncompliance
  • Detect offenses in a timely manner, responds appropriately to them, and implements any necessary corrective action
  • Collaborate with management and leadership to identify concerns and potential solutions
  • Enforce disciplinary guidelines to ensure employees continuously and consistently follow compliance standards
  • Attend compliance meetings and draft committee agendas and materials
  • Assist in conducting regulatory compliance audits as assigned
  • Assisting the Director of Compliance with tracking and responding to complaints, which may include HIPAA Complaints, Right of Access Complaints, and/or Privacy Complaints
  • Assist with the development, implementation, maintenance and revision of compliance policies and procedures
  • Assist with communicating new or revised regulations and guidelines to department managers, staff, physicians and administration
  • Assists with the development and/or delivery of timely and professional compliance education as evidenced by documented compliance curriculum and feedback from participants
  • Assist in maintaining records of compliance activities
  • Assist in the auditing and monitoring workplan which may include communicating with providers, tracking audit results and coordinating additional training for physicians, APPs and physical therapists
  • Preparing and filing compliance reports
  • Creating and disseminating a monthly compliance newsletter working with relevant departments to obtain content
  • Assist in conducting risk assessments, monitoring and auditing, and staff training
  • Assist with third party risk/vendor management evaluations and tasks including maintaining any vendor exclusions
  • Facilitate cross-departmental meetings, include scheduling, note-taking, and follow up on action items. Serve as minute keeper for Compliance Committee Meeting and during any incident response activities
  • Document processes, procedures, and controls resulting from risk management activities, audits, etc.
  • Create and contribute to reports and dashboards utilizing Excel, the compliance software platform and any GRC tools

Requirements:EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, a science or healthcare discipline, or related field
  • Must Have at least two (2) years of related compliance experience with a background in healthcare regulatory issues, including general familiarly with medical billing
  • Experience and working knowledge of Corporate Compliance, Audit, Legal, Privacy, or Information Security. Experience with case investigations management and compliance hotline management preferred

SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Current knowledge of healthcare regulatory and compliance issues
  • Proficiency in Canva or Adobe Illustrator
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Experience corresponding and working closely with medical providers
  • Competency in EMR or ability to be trained on an EMR system for daily use
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)
  • Documenting and reporting skills
  • Ability to interpret and apply federal and state statutes, regulations, accrediting body standards and requirements
