General purpose of the job

The cost accountant position is accountable for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. The cost accountant must also construct and monitor those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management.

Individual accountabilities

• Plan, study, and collect data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory and labor
• Analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided, to determine effects on cost
• Analyze actual manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs
• Develop of new labor and overhead rates, budget, and forecasts
• Perform and analyze audits of costs and prepare reports of findings
• Perform ad hoc product/plant cost analysis to support the operations
• Maintain Cost Accounting System
• Conducts physical inventories and monitors cycle count program
• Reconciles inventory variances
• Assist with internal and external audit requests
• Work with the finance department to implement and apply cost accounting policies and procedures
• Assist with capital planning and fixed assets management
• Assist in month-end closing, prepare journal entries as necessary, review of period spending

Education

Bachelor´s Degree in Accounting or Finance

Technical knowledge and certifications

• Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
• Strong inter-personal skills
• Good organizational and time management skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, high volume environment.
• Strong analytical skills
• Self-motivated individual with the ability to multi-task and function in a fast paced environment
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, with minimum four (4) years’ experience as a Cost Accountant; OR an appropriate combination of education and experience
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel
• SAP preferred; Great Plains experience a plus
