Job Summary


The Director of Athletics serves on the student affairs senior leadership team and is responsible for the overall direction and supervision of multi-campus intercollegiate varsity athletics, club sports, and recreation and wellness programs and administrative, operational, and business functions of the department. The position is responsible for developing and maintaining a program that promotes and reflects athletic success, a high level of integrity, and the successful academic achievement of the student-athletes.



Middle Georgia State University (MGA) Athletics currently sponsors ten intercollegiate varsity teams on two campuses: Women's volleyball, women's cross country, and men's and women's tennis operate on the Macon campus, and baseball, softball, men's and women's basketball, and men's and women's soccer operate on the Cochran campus. MGA operates a Recreation and Wellness Center on both Macon and Cochran campuses.

Responsibilities


Duty 1 -

Provides direction and leadership for the university's varsity athletic, club sports, recreation, and wellness programs; supervise the work of coaches, coordinators and trainers; coordinate with university administration to develop and implement strategic plans.


Duty 2 -

Provides leadership and management for the intercollegiate athletic program, including policy issues, academic and athletic performance, budgeting, fiscal management, scheduling, adherence to university policies, association and conference regulations, staff supervision and evaluation, long-range planning, public and media relations and athletic fundraising.


Duty 3 -

Works with University Advancement to develop, implement, and direct fundraising and corporate support programs for intercollegiate athletics.


Duty 4 -

Provides support for and leadership to the Knights Athletic Association for fundraising efforts including the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospective donors.


Duty 5 -

Organizes, directs, and participates in activities that will promote a positive public image on the university campuses, as well as locally, regionally and nationally.


Duty 6 -

Collaborates with university services to support the social, physical, emotional, and intellectual development of student-athletes; encouraging and recognizing student success in service, in the classroom and in competition.


Duty 7 -

Encourages and creates an atmosphere of sportsmanship, professionalism, and respect among staff, coaches and student athletes while maintaining a competitive program.


Duty 8 -

Provides oversight for administrative, operational, and business functions of multi-campus athletic, recreational, and wellness facilities and programs, as well as supervision of staff which includes providing oversight for game-day management for all home athletic competitions.


Duty 9 -

Provides oversight to the management of the athletic facilities and reviews usage requests from non-athletic organizations.


Duty 10 -

Develops and manages annual athletic sports and recreational and wellness budgets.


Duty 11 -

Certifies athletic eligibility for student athletes in accordance with national association rules and Middle Georgia State University standards.


Duty 12 -

Oversees, monitors, and promotes student success and other initiatives that focus on student engagement and thus support efforts to increase persistence, retention, and academic success for all student-athletes.


Duty 13 -

Develops an annual Team Academic Report Card detailing attempted hours, earned hours, learning support attempts, semester grade point average (GPA) and hours, and cumulative GPA and hours.


Duty 14 -

Attends and participates in the president's cabinet meetings, in university, association, and conference committees, and in athletic association board meetings.


Duty 15 -

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications


Educational Requirements
Master's degree in a relevant management or administration field relevant to athletics administration

Other Required Qualifications
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a driver's license.

Required Experience
Minimum of five years of significant athletic administrative experience at the collegiate level.
Experience with regulatory and compliance matters and with the complete array of fiscal and operational complexities of an intercollegiate athletics program.
Demonstrated experience and success in fund raising.

Preferred Qualifications


NCAA DII experience

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics and the rules and regulations governing intercollegiate athletics.

Experience in planning, administration, personnel, facilities, fundraising, and fiscal management.

Knowledge in complying with Title IX, ADA, and other relevant federal and state laws and regulations.

Experience in marketing and promoting collegiate athletics as well as revenue generation.

Outstanding interpersonal relationship skills in working harmoniously with a diverse student body, faculty, staff, other university constituents, and external organizations.

Experience with hiring, training, and supervising coaches and classified staff in a team atmosphere and developing cooperation among all members of the staff.

Excellent decision making and problem-solving skills.

Outstanding oral, written and interpersonal communication, with unquestioned integrity and character.

Skills in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
