Background

The Director of Human Resources is a member of the Executive Leadership Team and reports directly to the CEO. The Director must perform their functions in line with the agency's mission, goals, and objectives. The Director must strive at all times to meet all expected standards of practice and ethics in operational areas.
They will be a resource to all members of the senior management group and will assist and advise on all human resource issues.

The Director is also responsible for the development, implementation and coordination of all human resource activities. Providing organizational planning and development for employment, indoctrination and training, employee relations, compensation, benefits, policies and procedures and employee services. Originates practices and objectives that will provide a balanced program plan throughout all programs/departments.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, benefits and leave programs; workers compensation leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance management; recognition, and training and development.
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of state and federal FMLA and CT Paid Leave.
  • Monitors and ensures the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; and recommends best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Identifies staffing and recruiting needs; develops and executes best practices for hiring and talent management.
  • Develop and recommend recruiting strategies to meet current or anticipated staffing needs; advise management on organizing, preparing, and implementing recruiting and retention strategies.
  • Manages and oversees the training and professional development strategies and initiatives.
  • Plans, leads, develops, coordinates, and implements policies, processes, and training initiatives.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to management.
  • Collaborates with other department managers to deliver employee training programs, and employee feedback, ensure compliance and facilitate performance management.
  • Works closely with management and employees to provide consultation and guidance to improve work relationships, build morale and increase productivity and retention.
  • Supports management by providing human resources advice, counsel, and decisions.
  • Supervise a team of 2-3 human resources professionals.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related field.
  • From seven (7) to (10) ten years of experience gained through increasingly responsible management positions within Human Resources with well-developed administrative skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Resourceful and well organized.
  • Experience working within a non-profit setting

This position is on-site, located in our Waterbury, CT offices.

We offer a competitive annual salary of $95,000-$105,000 and a $5K sign-on bonus.
