Bay Street is currently seeking a full time DME Fitter and Biller who would like to be a part of a work environment that consists of supportive leadership, state-of-the-art technological resources, inter-professional teamwork, and innovative learning.

While following excellent service standards, the DME Fitter and Biller position will assists physicians with care and treatment of orthopedic patients, including, but not limited to casting, splinting, DME bracing, and the application of traction. DME fitting includes and is not limited to fitting, refitting, custom measurement, education, billing, collection of co-ins/Deductible and patient satisfaction. The ideal candidate will validate compliance, insurance verification, and follow up on DME orders. They will communicate with the patient care staff, patients and families regarding durable medical equipment issues. This is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week, with generous benefits and competitive compensation. Other responsibilities include the below essential functions:

  • Prioritize daily work to ensure achievement of established productivity goals.
  • Verifying, obtaining, reviewing and accurately determining that all medical documentation received from physicians or referrals are meet all regulatory requirements
  • Conducting pre-authorization/pre-certifications and referrals when applicable and ensuring all documentation guidelines are met as required by each insurance carrier
  • Ensure accurate patient records, coding and documentation required for billing.
  • Research and correct rejected claims and post payment
  • Assist with ordering and maintaining stock and inventory of DME
  • Develop and maintain working knowledge of current products and services offered
  • Answering questions from patients, clerical staff and insurance companies
  • Ongoing education of new bracing and equipment
  • Preparing and submitting clean claims to various insurance companies
  • Measuring, applying and removing DME products, casts, splints, dressing, sutures and staples to patients as directed by physicians
  • Educating the patient on DME product use or care related to casts, splints, dressings, sutures and staples
  • Provide fitting of prefabricated orthoses for the upper and lower extremities.
  • Provide fitting of prefabricated spinal orthoses.
  • Patient fitting and instruction with off-the-shelf orthotic devices as described as well as durable medical equipment products.
  • Instructing patient on proper cleaning instructions per manufacturer
  • Apply fiberglass casts and orthoplast splints
  • Entering detailed notes for patients chart
  • Resolving patient complaints and/or problems associated with the use of the DME equipment after it has been placed
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with all HIPAA rules and regulations Requirements
  • Will need to travel to other Bay Street Orthopaedics office locations for inventory audits and fitting patients for proper braces.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

  • Meets all attendance and punctuality requirements to ensure proper coverage and quality service
  • Demonstrates an ability to resolve interpersonal and professional conflicts appropriately
  • Promote positive relationships with scheduling coordinators, physicians and nursing staff members throughout the scheduling process
  • Ability to formulate decisions and make judgments that are demanding and interpretative
  • Maintain patient confidentiality; comply with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • One year experience in casting, athletic training, orthotic fitting or Physical Therapy Assisting is preferred
  • ATC, PTA, OTC, OPA or MA certification is preferred
  • Medical insurance knowledge is a plus
  • Billing experience is a plus
  • Flexibility to travel between our Petoskey, Cheboygan, Gaylord and Charlevoix locations
