Abbott House is seeking a motivated Parent Advocate to join the Enhanced Family Foster Care team. In this role you will support parents with children in foster care understand and navigate the foster care system, remain hopeful, and address family challenges so that they can accomplish their goal of reunification. The focus of this job is building connections with parents and working collaboratively with case planners.

Key Responsibilities
- Support parents in coping with the trauma of foster care involvement,
- Building and maintaining relationships with foster children during foster care placement
- Prepare parents and participate alongside them in all Family Team Conferences
- Report to a foster care unit supervisor and work with case planners
- Implement the Parents Empowering Parents (PEP) model including key practices in the first 90 days of a case to orient parents to the service planning process
- Conduct visits to parents’ homes
- Accompany parents to appointments at various service providers.
About You
You are the ideal candidate if you have a passion for empowering underserved communities and supporting children and their families. Being organized, empathetic, flexible and responsive are critical attributes to be successful in this role.
- You have at least a High School degree.
- You are able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- You have the ability to establish effective working relationships with families, coworkers, supervisors, and others.
- You are familiar with child abuse or neglect reporting procedures and methods
- You have strong computer skills
- You are familiar with connections, ACS and family court
- You are able to navigate the NYC foster care system.

Schedule:
Monday- Friday 9am-5pm with flexibility for after hours.
