The Athletics Department is recruiting for a Head Cheer Coach. The Head Cheer Coach is responsible for the cheer program at the university. This position entails establishing and perpetuating relationships with cheer programs in regional high schools, recruiting and training student participants, developing student leadership, planning all aspects of cheer performance, planning and budgeting for program operations, and assessment of cheer activities. Collaboration with the dance team and marching band, all areas of athletics, communications and marketing offices, and admission department is essential for the success of this program. Typical Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6pm - 9pm, some weekends as needed


Primary Duties and Responsibilities
:

  • Develop and enhance recruitment strategies, in partnership with the Office of Admission, to enroll qualified members of the cheer team, including identifying and visiting with prospective students, attending regional cheer performances, visiting high school cheer programs, and establishing and perpetuating professional relationships with pacific northwest high school cheer coaches.
  • Plan all cheer activities and performances, including selecting music and stunts, planning, composing and arranging drills and field activities. Assesses skills and assigns team positions; chooses team Creates choreography and cheers; organizes practice sessions. Monitors each cheerleader, recommending safe techniques, and supervising warm-ups. This includes coordination with the dance team, marching band, and sports information director.
  • Manage all cheer operations, including budgeting, supervision of any employees or student leaders and strategic planning for program in keeping with the strategic plan for the university.
  • Collaborate with campus colleagues in Athletics, Enrollment Management and Admission, Student Affairs, Conference & Events, and off-campus entities to ensure success of program.
  • Develop student leadership and promote student engagement through membership in the cheer program.
  • Work with University Advancement and Strategic Communications when requested to enhance outreach of the university.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience as a cheer coach at the high school or university level.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and driving record to become/remain certified to operate Linfield vehicles and equipment.
  • Must have and maintain first aid and CPR certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • 3-5 years or more of college/university or post-secondary marching or cheer experience.
  • Experience developing cheer drills, routines, and exercises and teaching these for performance.
  • Ability to develop cheer performances enhanced with a dance team or other related performance groups.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse student populations of students to build a culture of inclusiveness in program.

Work is physical in nature, requiring constant walking, standing, talking, seeing, and hearing. Ability to physically demonstrate dance techniques. Occasional sitting and desk work. Frequent running and climbing stairs. Constant exposure to weather elements. Requires operation of a motor vehicle and valid driver's license. Requires evening and weekend work.
