The Inmate Library Manager supervises, plans, and maintains a Small Branch Library, which provides court-mandated library services and reading materials to MCSO inmates. Other responsibilities include budget monitoring, assisting in the development and implementation of procedures, processes, programs and department goals, and participating in strategic planning.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education
  • Master’s degree in Library Science from a school that is accredited by the American Library Association.
Experience
  • Three (3) years of professional library experience
Other Requirements
Training with the exception of Arizona driver’s license to be provided on-the-job:

  • FEMA NIMS – IS100 AND 700
  • OSHA training
  • Payroll training
  • PREA training
  • A valid Arizona driver’s license
  • Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass an extensive background review.

ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS

  • Schedule and supervise library operations; including library budget to ensure cost effectiveness
  • Recruit, interview, and train employees; complete Employee Performance Appraisals
  • Assist in the development and implementation of procedures, processes, programs, department goals and strategic planning
  • Responsible for the solicitation of donated books from libraries and community organizations; maintain financial statements; and schedule pick-up and delivery of books
  • Purchase new and used library materials and equipment
  • Collect and compile statistical library operational data; prepare reports
  • Develop and update library distribution, purchasing and donation schedules
  • Resolve inmate grievances
  • Sort, classify, and organize storage of library materials
  • Select vendors for new and used books along with magazines
  • Maintain administrative, personnel, and vertical reference files
  • Plan and conduct staff meetings; and training sessions
  • Provide reference and reader’s advisory service
  • Coordinate distribution of books to jails
  • Coordinate the acquisition and installation of new equipment and supplies
  • Respond to inquiries via telephone, email, in person, and through written correspondence
  • Plan for expansion, improvement, and design of jail library
  • Review payroll and leave requests
  • Be present at work site to perform assigned tasks at the times and dates scheduled and/or assigned by the supervisor

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
