POSITION SPECIFICATION

Position: Market Leader

Company: Alvarado Restaurant Nation / Palo Alto Inc. (DBA, Taco Bell, KFC)

Reports To: Chief Operating Officer

Supervises: Above Restaurant Leaders

Salary: $90k-$115k


OVERVIEW OF ROLE

The Market Leader (ML) provides overall leadership and direct supervision over Above Restaurant Leaders (ARLs) while overseeing the restaurants (between 30 and 50) in that region to deliver top quartile operating metrics and meet or exceed the annual operating plan established for the market. The ML accomplishes these objectives by actively engaging in the coaching and direction of between 5 and 7 ARLs, as well as frequent contact with Restaurant General Managers (RGMs). Focal points include reviewing area and unit-specific performance targets in guest service, margin improvement and employee satisfaction, maintaining company standards in food safety, product and facility specifications, allocating limited capital budgets to meet highest priority facility needs, introducing and reinforcing new company products and initiatives, and selecting, training, developing and motivating managerial employees.


The ML position is a hands-on field-based position, and the MLs may directly perform hands-on operational work as necessary to train new managerial team members, respond to immediate or severe customer service needs, or otherwise role model appropriate skills and behaviors in the restaurant. The ML needs to be available to support operations leaders and respond timely as needed to account for the business operating hours. This person will also be responsible for creating and leading company culture that is conducive to continuing the companys mission and core values.


CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate will have 7+ years of field restaurant multi-unit operations experience, leading high performing operations teams at various levels within an organization, within a QSR environment. This person will have had direct P&L responsibility for a restaurant operating company, ideally in excess of $50MM in revenues. S/he will also be responsible for training and developing ARLs and RGMs. S/he will be a poised motivator who is approachable by personnel at all levels of the company, from executives to restaurant team members. This candidate will have experience in successfully operating restaurants in turn-around situations, with a track record demonstrating the ability to effectively staff, train, motivate, and retain the teams they build under them.

Strong team leadership expertise with the ability to collaborate with employees at all levels of the company (restaurant team members to C-suite executives)

Ability to develop and maintain a strong team through recruitment, training, bench planning, and retention initiatives

Capability to build a strong team culture that embodies and enhances existing company mission and core values

Demonstrates thought leadership through contributing to the broader Market Leader teams success

Implement tactical plans that ensure achievement of operations, financial and people goals

Have a great culture of accountability and recognition

Partner with the COO to effectively achieve the companys strategic initiatives and the annual operating plan.


Operations & Financial

Lead the restaurant team in day to day field operations

Demonstrates strong planning and organizational skills to ensure downstream operational teams are working pro-actively and driving top quartile performance

Delivers a robust follow-up (recaps) and follow-through (accountability) bias for action to ensure optimal returns of time and effort invested in ARLs and their teams.

Identifies, collaborates, develops, aligns and executes strategies within designated market that drives market performance while linking to the overall objectives of the company

Monitor and execute key operating and financial metrics established by the company and the restaurant Brand, ensuring that area meets standards required by the brand to guarantee company remains growth approved.

Drive unit level profitability by utilize performance scorecard to manage daily operations and financial metrics

Visit restaurants with ARLs with the objective of building ARL capability through effective coaching and teaching of all Taco Bell Restaurant Operating standards and ARL Systems and Processes.

Ensure effective communication from the top down and bottom up through participating in/and/or leading regular meetings (ML meetings, ARL meetings, RGM meetings)

Understand and ensure consistent execution of Brand Standards. Provide leadership in execution and management of Speed with Service, Food Cost, Labor, Brand Audits, Food Safety, Staffing, Training and key operation areas.

Ensures all restaurants in designated Market are presenting as Best on Block Assets

Review monthly P&Ls and profitability metrics with ARLs & their RGM teams

Utilize scorecard to identify areas of opportunity in the market and each restaurant, and develop and prioritize schedule based on the needs of the business

Engage in restaurant audits in conjunction with ARL restaurant visits to calibrate on performance standards and to provide an objective basis for performance feedback

Ensure each restaurant maintains a bench plan based on company and brand standards

Meet regularly with COO to review financials, scorecard and overall business performance
