MARRIAGE AND FAMILY COUNSELOR

SITE OF SERVICE:

  • The primary site of service will be in the Mental Health Department (NMCP), Portsmouth Naval Base, VA.
  • Full Time Position

POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree: Master’s Degree
  • Education: Possess one of the following:
    • Graduation from a marriage and family therapy accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE)

OR

    • A qualifying degree in an allied mental health field from a regionally accredited education institution in conjunction with a program of marriage and family therapy study that is equivalent to the COAMFTE standards, as defined by the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).
  • Certification: Possess and maintain a current Clinical Membership as a Marriage and Family Therapist from the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).
  • Additional Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) hands on certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Experience: Have at least two (2) years post-graduate experience as a Marriage and Family Therapist within the preceding three (3) years.
  • Licensure: Possess and maintain a current, valid, unrestricted license or certification to practice as a Marriage and Family Therapist.
  • U.S. Citizenship: Shall be a U.S. citizen
  • English Language Requirement: Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate.
  • Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.

HOURS:

  • Services shall be provided Monday through Friday, between the hours of 0630 and 1800 hours.
  • Shifts will normally be scheduled for an eight and half (8.5) to nine (9) hour period, to include an uncompensated thirty (30) minute to sixty (60) minute lunch break.
  • In no instance will services be required in excess of eighty (80) hours per two-week period.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team-work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
