Ophthalmic Tech Trainee do tasks that the eye doctor can delegate to others. Mostly, they are information gatherers and facilitators. Preforming measurements and tests that provide the doctor with the information needed to arrive at a diagnosis and to prescribe treatment. They also assist with documentation and patient services. Some ophthalmic techs assist with surgical procedures.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Preparing patient to see Physician
  • Preliminary exam, medical history, & testing
  • Preparation of examination and treatment rooms
  • Performing basic and routine vision screening examinations
  • Administering eye medications
  • Cleaning and maintaining ophthalmic instruments and assisting physicians during minor surgical procedures.
  • Prepares patients for ophthalmology examination by dilating pupils
  • Note changes in visual acuity
  • Elevated extraocular pressure
  • Blood pressure
  • Communicating results to Physician.
  • Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records
  • Completing diagnostic and procedure coding
  • Keeping patient information confidential.
  • Counsels patients by transmitting physician's orders, use of drops, contact lenses, drugs, and answer questions about surgery and specialty imagining required/ordered.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures along with complying with legal regulations.
  • Maintains stock in exam room in accordance to standard inventory and Physician preferences.

This position requires availability at two locations one in Medford and one in Grants Pass.

Monday- Grants Pass office and start between 7:00-10:30am and off work between 4:30-7pm depending upon start time.

Tuesday- Medford office and start between 7:20-10:30am and off work between 4:30-7pm depending upon start time.

Wednesday- Grants Pass office and start between 7:00-10:30am and off work between 4:30-7pm depending upon start.

Thursday- Potential half day in Grants Pass or Medford starting 1-2pm then off 5pm-7 ish/ or full day off

Friday- Medford office and start is between 7:10-10:30am until 5-7pm.

This office will train front office for cross training so everyone can fill in when needed. Other duties as assigned.

Must be able to pass criminal background checks, drug screen and current reference checks. Must be at least 18 to apply.

As of Oct. 18, 2021, Oregon is requiring all healthcare employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19, with limited exceptions. Vaccinations are required as this is an essential part of the role.
