ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the supervision of the Radio Maintenance Manager to maintain communication systems and other associated equipment for the City of Memphis Police, Fire, and local government; repairs two-way radios and related equipment such as portables, mobiles, base stations, pagers, microwave, sirens, emergency lights, etc.; operates computer terminal, to add to, or modify operations and history database.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

1. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Requires the use of a drill press, metal saws, etc; climbing safety ladders used for servicing mobile antennae on cars and trucks; and operating computer terminal. Must be able to lift and carry tools and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs. Bending, stooping and crawling to view repair equipment may be required.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a radio shop environment. Required to travel across the City and work at fire houses, radio sites, equipment shelters, roofs of buildings, and equipment penthouses

Qualifications - External

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in the land mobile two-way radio communications field, including maintenance of land mobile RF transmitting and receiving equipment, transistors, and integrated circuits. Must have experience in proper use of land mobile radio test equipment and procedures. Must have experience working with Part 90 FCC rules and regulations. Must have a FCC General Class Radiotelephone License or must obtain one within six (6) months of employment in the position as a condition of continued employment. Must have experience using basic computer skills, and advanced computer skills a plus. Must possess and maintain a valid driver license as a condition of continued employment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,219.70 per year
