Westinghouse Electric Company, Nuclear Fuel, is seeking an Electrical Controls Engineer in the Technical Services department for its Specialty Metals Plant (SMP) located in Blairsville, Pennsylvania. The employees of SMP manufacture zirconium-alloy tubing products used in nuclear fuel assemblies for Westinghouse Nuclear Fuel, our licensees, and other customers worldwide. At our facility, we use state-of-the-art manufacturing and inspection systems to meet the exacting standards and demanding tolerances required by our customers.
Your Day to Day:
  • Assume lead technical responsibility for design, development, training, performance, and implementation of new or modified systems that require the integration of team efforts across multifunctional groups. This includes the specification of new equipment designs as well as coordinating and overseeing fabrication, installation, training, testing and qualification with a focus on ensuring compliance to safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with EH&S team to ensure compliance to applicable requirements including ergonomic and energy control requirements and safety and environmental regulations.
  • Apply engineering analytical skills to identify root cause failures and implement corrective actions to prevent repeat issues.
  • Prepare technical papers and make formal presentations to internal and/ or external customers or other stakeholders.
  • Analyze and make proposals for new business opportunities and implement strategic plans.
  • Seek opportunities and implement continuous improvements to enhance project performance.
  • Analyze and resolve electrical, instrumentation, controls and logic issues on production equipment.
  • Lead equipment reliability efforts through evaluation of component failures and system failure mechanisms.
  • Generate or support the creation of accurate drawings and reports to effectively document and communicate a design.
  • Create conceptual designs, technical documentation, and budget estimates for bid and proposals.
  • Develop and drive the strategy for the controls group
  • Act as the lead controls engineer providing leadership to the controls team
  • Work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment and provide technical leadership on projects.



A successful candidate will possess the following:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology is required.
  • 5 – 10 years electrical maintenance experience is required.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLC hardware configuration and PLC programming
  • Experience with AC and DC drives and motors, servo drives, instrumentation and controls.

Candidate must also be familiar with and/or have experience with the following:
  • Ability to read, interpret and update electrical drawings.
  • Experience with .NET, Wonderware, and Ignition programming is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented, highly organized, and able to ensure multiple assignments are completed properly and on time.
  • Able to effectively multi-task and handle changing work assignments, schedules, and priorities.
