Purpose

Avangrid Renewables (“the Company”) participates in proprietary power trading activities across the U.S. and is involved in monetizing the power output of the third largest wind generation fleet in the U.S. Avangrid Renewables also managers one of the largest merchant power trading desks, with assets generating over $1bn of revenue. The Avangrid Renewables Deregulated Wholesale Energy Management (“DWEM”) Compliance Function is primarily focused on U.S. regulatory compliance, including compliance management activities associated with FERC/CFTC market rules, commodities exchanges, and ISO market trading rules.

Within the DWEM Compliance Function, and reporting to the Avangrid Renewables Chief Compliance Officer, the Compliance Program Manager is responsible for ensuring that Avangrid Renewables is minimizing energy compliance risk by implementing a programmatic approach to DWEM compliance across the Company.

Responsibilities

  • Interfacing and maintaining effective working relationships with Avangrid Renewables origination, corporate risk, legal, IT, mid-office, and front office functions.
  • Project managing the resolution of energy management issues as they arise across functional areas, including those mentioned above.
  • Communicating across relevant business areas to ensure that data inputs and associated analysis are accurate, thoroughly documented and retained.
  • Ensuring and facilitating adherence to trade surveillance requirements, with subsequent research and analysis of trading positions to ensure compliance objectives are adhered to.
  • Providing Dodd Frank analytical review and guidance on new transactions, such as purchase power agreements.
  • Monitoring and preparing reports on business positions, market activity and compliance with applicable regulations and company policies.
  • Providing independent analysis of trading compliance activity. The role includes being able to manage interactions with the power trading function (including the traders).
  • Developing and implementing DWEM training and communications.
  • Being the Company point of contact for commodity exchanges to address issues that arise.

Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 7+ years of direct experience in the U.S. energy (natural gas and electricity) trading sector.
  • Experience in standards and best practices for compliance and ethics programs under the U.S. Federal Sentencing Guidelines and related legal frameworks.
  • Experience in resolving external regulatory inquires/investigations and working with outside counsel on related matters.
  • Strong working understanding of FERC and CFTC market rules and related compliance best practices.
  • Detailed knowledge of ICE, CME and ISOs compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Understanding of role of risk management in energy compliance activities
  • Experience in working with common energy trading industry strategies, liquidity considerations and fundamental drivers affecting market price behavior.
  • Working knowledge of trade surveillance system and their purpose within a compliance program.


Required Skills/Abilities

  • Familiarity with how to use ETRM and Aligne trading systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage the resolution of issues across Avangrid Renewables departments/functions.
  • Ability to prepare informative and visually creative presentations and reports, e.g., incorporating statistics, graphics, and charts.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior management
  • Strong interpersonal and teamworking skills
  • Ability to project manage, methodically investigate information, cross-check and test conclusions from multiple angles and produce objective positions is critical.
  • Ability to securely handle sensitive, confidential, and privileged information
