What you will be doing
The role of a Project Manager within the International Development Unit of Ecorys based in Brussels is to contribute to the successful management of our portfolio of projects with DG INTPA.

The role involves two core functions with the first function forming the majority of the role:

  • Responsible for the successful management of international development projects, mainly with DG INTPA, based in Brussels;
  • Support to the identification, development and winning of proposals.


Specific rolling annual work and personal development objectives will be set and agreed on a six-monthly basis.

It is anticipated the Project Management and implementation responsibilities will form the majority of the role.

Tasks will include, but are not limited to those outlined below:

Project Management (75% of role)

  • Undertake the management of projects with increasing level of responsibility for project management duties, in accordance with Ecorys’ project management approaches and quality standards;
  • Support Project Director(s) in meeting client expectations to deliver project(s) on time, in scope and on budget;
  • Prioritise and deliver project management tasks for selected project(s);
  • Engage directly with Client, consortium partners and consultants with minimal supervision;
  • Undertake project administration including contract management; administering expert timesheets;
  • Making travel bookings and other logistical arrangements;
  • Quality assurance of technical deliverables as required;
  • Ensuring projects are delivered within time, to a high quality and within budget;
  • Deliver other tasks associated with successful project delivery for example, client liaison and reporting.

Business Development (25% of role)

  • Formatting and tailoring project documents including EoIs, proposals, CVs and reports;
  • Develop high quality graphics and visual aids for project tenders in consultation with bid manager/bid writers;
  • Identify, negotiate and recruit associate staff for proposals and projects, including but not limited to placing of adverts, selection of associate staff, briefing of staff, negotiations on fees and contractual arrangements etc;
  • Become fully familiar with scope and quality of associates on existing database, particularly those that are highly regarded and regularly work with Ecorys and support efforts to strengthen its associate consultant resources;
  • Support the preparation of first drafts of non-technical chapters where appropriate;
  • Contribute to technical aspects of proposals where delegated;
  • Learn the proposal preparation process under guidance and take role of proposal manager.

What we will need from you
Essential:

  • Achieved a Bachelor’s degree in an economics or development related subject;
  • Minimum of five years of experience in project management and/or implementation in an international development, NGO or consultancy setting;
  • Fluency in English, an advanced level of French is a plus;
  • Strong interest in and commitment to international development;
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to present complex matters in simple/understandable terms for a variety of readers;
  • Have strong analytical ability;
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to develop client and partner relationships;
  • Ability to communicate and build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders;
  • Good commercial awareness;
  • Excellent time management and project management skills;
  • Strong work planning and reporting against progress;
  • Ability to manage time and multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Excel;
  • Willingness to travel to developing countries for up to 2 to 4 weeks.


Desirable:

  • Achieved a higher degree in an economics or development related subject;
  • Experience with the management of international projects of DG INTPA;
  • Appropriate project management accreditation such as PMI / PRINCE2.
