Senior Data Engineer


Bayview is an investment management firm focused on investments in mortgage and consumer credit. The Consumer Lending Fintech is a newly founded business line for direct to consumer lending efforts. The Consumer Lending team aims to improve people’s lives. The team will create innovative solutions that will raise awareness of available financial options and provide products to improve the financial well-being of consumers.

The data engineering team in Consumer Lending will play a key role in building the product experience to launch a series of innovative products that will be beneficial for consumers. We will first launch new products/flows for existing customers and then expand to prospects. We are looking for senior data engineers who can operate with a white sheet of paper, ideate, collaborate, build, launch, and iterate on new consumer facing products. As an early data engineer for our group, you will be part of a small team with a large amount of ownership and autonomy for managing things directly.


As a remote-first Consumer Lending Fintech team, this role can be remote or in an office in New York City, NY or Coral Gables, FL. The salary range for this role is $175,000 to $215,000; however, Bayview considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, location and key skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test and deploy data ingestion and processing pipelines
  • Own and improve our data platform architecture
  • Evaluate new technologies and integrate them into our infrastructure
  • Conduct code reviews and help mentor junior engineers
  • Advocate best practices and coding standards
  • Adhere to the Company’s Compliance Standards
  • Ensure a safe and secure work environment
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:

  • Experience in data engineering at a fast-growing company
  • Experience building secure and highly available data systems at scale
  • Passionate about learning new technologies and adapting to complex and fast moving environments
  • Ability to work and communicate cross-functionally; collaborate & influence as part of a team
  • Ability to understand complex systems and solve challenging analytical problems
  • Collaborative in team environments but also able to act autonomously as a decision-maker
  • Analytical curiosity and experience using data to identify issues and determine actions
  • Ability to take “full ownership” of issues until they are completely resolved


EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • 6+ years of working experience in a Data Engineering or Data Science role, with a focus on building data pipelines
  • Expert with SQL
  • Fluency with a data processing language (Python preferred)
  • Experience with cloud-based data technologies such as AWS and Snowflake
  • Experience in managing and handling sensitive data (PII etc)
  • Experience with data analytics
  • Adept at communicating with many cross-functional stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Reflective, independent and eager learner
  • High levels of integrity, autonomy, self-motivation and ability to work well in a team
