Job Title: Shack Summer Day Camp Counselor

Essential Generic Job Functions:

  • Oversee and supervise the safety and well-being of all participating
campers daily. Safety is the Borough of Glen Rock’s top priority, and
the safety of all campers is the most important job duty of being a
counselor.

  • Consistently interact with all campers to ensure they are having fun
and acting in a responsible manner towards the other Shack
participants.

  • Be creative and motivated while interacting with the children. One is
to make sure every camper is included in all daily activities while at
the Shack Summer Day Camp.

  • Organize, facilitate, and create various events, activities, and
programs throughout each day the Shack is in operation to incorporate
fun and excitement at the Shack.

  • Leading and supporting campers as they participate in age-appropriate
activities.

  • All Shack counselors are responsible for providing basic First Aid and
care or summonsing the authorities when a medical emergency
occurs. In addition, accidents must be documented and reported
immediately to the Director of Parks and Recreation and the Shack
Director.

  • One must be responsible for all materials and equipment which is the
property of the Shack Summer Day Camp. All individuals must clean
the Shack in its entirety after the last child has left the Shack for the
day.

  • One must report to work on time and be willing and ready to begin
work as instructed by the Director of Parks and Recreation, the Shack
Director, or the Head Counselor. If one given individual is not willing
to comply with those instructions, they will be sent home for the day.

  • One is to maintain a facile and effective relationship with the Director
of Parks and Recreation, the Shack Director, and his/ her fellow Camp
Counselors to have a successful working environment and be able to
resolve any issues or conflicts which may arise.

  • Memorizing all emergency procedures and enforcing camp rules.
  • Participating in staff meetings and receive various training programs
through our Joint Insurance Fund including No-Tolerance, Protecting
Children and Park Safety.



Camp Counselor Requirements:

  • Experience working in camps, with children, or with specific
activities may be preferred.

  • First aid, CPR, and additional training may be required or beneficial.
  • Physical ability to participate in activities, run, climb, swim, lift, or
support the weight of children.

  • Minimum age is 15 and working papers are required for anyone under
18. Ability to pass a background check if over age 18.

  • Upbeat, engaging personality.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
