Description

WASD is currently seeking a full time Social/Emotional Learning (SEL) Coach at the SAGES Charter School. Hours for the position are Monday - Friday 7:30am-3:30pm including a 30 minute duty free lunch for a total of 7.5 paid hours per day. Preferred candidates will hold a current and valid special ed aide license from DPI and have current NVCI training (or be willing to be trained). Preference given to candidate with social work, counseling or related experiences. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or skills associated with this position, but is intended to accurately reflect the essential job elements. Responsibilities include the following: A.L.E. (Alternative Learning Environment) Supports: -When available, respond to classrooms when teachers call needing assistance with an oppositional student. -Coordinate with classroom teacher and provide assistance to students to completing school work during removal period. -Provide calming and/or coping strategies to the students when they need to break from their assigned classroom to regulate their body. -Communicate and develop Plan B with the student’s support team (including building principal) about length of removal and expected return outcomes. Regulation Station Supports: -Work with emotionally/behaviorally escalated students to assist them in becoming calm, focused, and able to rejoin their class. -Work with students to reflect on triggers, conditions, and strategies to implement in the future. -Operate a safe space for students to decompress and recollect themselves when they are struggling with their day. -Collaborate with the Regulation Station Aide for calming/coping strategies to support the student. -Facilitate creation of Plan B and guide team in collaborative problem solving process to help students find and use coping mechanisms to deal with triggers and environmental stressors. -Collect daily student data and analyze for patterns Other Responsibilities: - Collect and Maintain student specific behavioral data. -Monitor hallways during passing times when available. -Assist administration with investigations as requested. -Work collaboratively with school and agency counselors, teachers, administrators, parents, and related service providers to establish effective strategies to help students overcome their behaviors. -Daily communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and related service providers. -Keep accurate records of students that utilize the resources of the room. -Maintain student records and files in a confidential manner. -Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and ethics, working cooperatively with the Board, the Superintendent, administrators, certificated and non-certificated personnel, parents, and students. -Complete required tasks independently with little or no direct assistance from the supervising teacher. -Develop rapport and maintain positive interactions with students, families, and staff. -Flexible and able to adapt to change easily and readily. -Computer literate and willing to expand technology-related skills. -Set limits with students using NVCI practices. -Possible responsibilities of the lunchroom and other building-specific supervisions. -Perform other duties as assigned by administration. Qualifications

Experience, Training, and Licensure: - Valid special education aide license required for this position -Has excellent behavior management skills and has a vocation for working with unmotivated/difficult students. -Trained in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (preferred) or willing to be trained. -Trained in Restorative Practices (preferred) or willing to be trained. -Trained in Mindfulness (preferred) or willing to be trained. -Trained in behavior management and/or child development (preferred) or willing to be trained. -Adept in continuous improvement in student services. -Able to work collaboratively or independently and take direction from the education team. -Ability to communicate with school staff, students, and community. -Organizational skills. -Ability to problem-solve. -Capacity to multitask in a fast-paced environment. -Capability and willingness to be a team player and develop interpersonal relationships while maintaining a professional demeanor. -Can take criticism and suggestions positively. -Punctual. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk; or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Trained and physically able to restrain students when danger to self or others. This position does require a minimum of a high school diploma AND a minimum of 48 credits of post-secondary education or an associate's degree. Preference given to candidates with bachelor's degree in applicable fields or prior employment involving behavior management. Candidate must be willing to fulfill DPI Title 1 requirements if minimum education requirements has not been met. DPI special education license must be obtained within one month of hire.
