Job Summary and Qualifications

Position Summary: The Accountant is responsible for general accounting functions including financial reporting of facility operations and support of facility management.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain multiple general ledgers
  • Prepare monthly journal entries, analyses and account reconciliations as required to accurately close the monthly fiscal period
  • Prepare detailed monthly actual to budget variance reports to support management in the review of monthly operating performance
  • Completes the monthly Accounts Payable processes including vendor setup, check requests, vendor call and month end expense accruals for the hospital and related entities
  • Review and maintain physician payment logs to ensure compliance and timely payments
  • Receive mail for finance department and distribute or process as appropriate
  • Perform timely internal compliance audits for purchasing, pharmacy, ER marketing, and payroll as directed and maintain documentation
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations for assigned Balance sheet accounts, including documentation to support all balances
  • Assist in the preparation of the Year End Tax Work paper packages
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual Medicare Cost Report including reconciliations and analysis
  • Participate in the development and detailed review of annual budgets and performance projections
  • Ensure that all processing and reporting deadlines are consistently achieved
  • Participate in the year-end inventory count for the hospital and related entities
  • Analyze financial reports and perform mathematical computations accurately
  • Prepare statistical, graphical, and narrative accounting and volume reports
  • Respond to requests for information from Facility Management, Corporate, Internal Audit and other internal and external management
  • Respond to questions from directors regarding their DOR and participate in meetings with the director and others for DOR review as needed
  • Attendance, works as scheduled with one weekend/month

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred; Associates degree with additional experience considered
  • Working knowledge of accounting theory, principles and practices sufficient to identify and describe accounting systems and sub-systems
  • Working knowledge of the financial accounting process
  • Working knowledge of research techniques to analyze and evaluate financial data and information
  • Working knowledge of accounting and information systems (Business Objects, Essbase, Host, Quickbooks, Meditech)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and Outlook

Experience:

  • Experience in a hospital or healthcare setting helpful
  • Must be high energy to deal with high volume, fast paced environment that may be stressful
