POSITION SUMMARY

Athens Administrators has an immediate need for a full-time Accounting Specialist III to support our Concord office located on Stanwell Drive. This position is hybrid with the potential of working from home full-time remotely in the Bay Area. Athens offices are open for business Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. local time. The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday at 37.5 hours a week. The Accounting Specialist III will perform accounting functions of moderate to complex, including routine and non-routine accounting tasks. Be responsible for invoicing and monitoring accounts receivable. Reconciling imprest accounts for assigned Property and Casualty or Workers Compensation clients and other duties as required.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Incumbent must have the skills, ability, and judgment to perform the following essential job duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation. Additional duties may be assigned:
Perform the following for Athens Administrators:
  • Backup the Accounting Specialist II when needed due to staffing needs
  • Perform monthly customer invoicing in Great Plains as assigned
  • Post cash receipts to appropriate client accounts and invoices, follow up on NSF checks.
  • Maintain all cash receipts and accounts receivable files and records, including clearing offsetting open invoices.
  • Monitor and contact customers as needed regarding outstanding invoices due to Athens
  • Review monthly aged receivables and report any outstanding items to Supervisor over 60 days
Perform the following cash management functions for client accounts:
  • Monitor cash balances of imprest accounts and reconcile client bank accounts
  • Request funds from clients to replenish imprest accounts as needed
  • Provide check registers, claims reports and financial reconciliation ledgers to various clients
  • Research stale dated checks and escheat stale dated checks to State Controller’s Office if required
  • Perform daily check release for claims payments

ESSENTIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required for all positions
    • AA/AS or BA/BS in Business preferred
  • Experience – 3 + Years of relevant experience in A/R, A/P and Bank reconciliation
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the accounting field
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to type quickly, accurately and for prolonged periods
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
    • Ability to learn additional computer programs
  • Reasoning ability, including problem-solving and analytical skills, i.e., proven ability to research and analyze facts, identify issues and make appropriate recommendations and solutions for resolution
  • Ability to be trustworthy, dependable, and team-oriented for fellow employees and the organization
  • Must demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness in work product
  • Seeks to include innovative strategies and methods in order to provide a high level of commitment to service & results
  • Infrequent lifting of up to 20lbs may be required
  • Strong interpersonal skills in order to work well with customer base.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
