The Certified Medical Assistant works as a part of the clinical provider team and assists providers in the provision of primary health care to those patients presenting for assistance at Memphis Health Center. The Medical Assistant/Clinic Aide provides limited direct and indirect patient services and performs specific procedures, as authorized by training and provider direction. The Medical Assistant holds a BLS/CPR Certification as well as a current Medical Assistant Certification in the State of Tennessee.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

v Assure comfort and prompt attention to all patients.

v Collect specimens and venipuncture for processing and packaging, with appropriate paperwork, for the Clinic laboratory.

v Conduct all routine procedures as requested, including hearing and sight examinations.

v Perform routine laboratory procedures and waived testing when necessary.

v Assist Providers in healthcare activities, performance of diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures.

v Assure complete, accurate and timely documentation of patient activities in EHR.

v Responsible to the provider and team leaders assigned to on a daily basis.

v Assist with examinations and procedures that are carried out by providers.

v Schedule appointments, surgeries and referrals.

v Assure patient information has been abstracted electronically in EHR.

v Assist with answering telephones and returning all patient telephone calls within 24 to 48 hours.

v Responsible for routing faxes appropriately

v Cleans, stock rooms and order supplies.

v Clean and sterilize supplies, rooms and equipment.

v Take patients’ vital signs, heights, weights etc.

v Collect and label urine/sputum specimens.

v Administer therapies and procedures as directed by the provider.

v Ensure patient confidentiality and provide patients with needed information.

v Perform other duties as may be requested to assist in keeping the organization compliant with all applicable standards.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

v One (1) year of experience in a medical setting or facility preferred.

v Current Medical Assistant Certification.

v Basic familiarity with routine medical protocol and terminology.

Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
