THE OPPORTUNITY

The Community Development Officer is a key member of the External Relations Team that provides strategic partnership cultivation, business development, and service coordination in the Central Valley region. They report directly to the VP of External Relations and work closely with the Fresno-based staff. They have knowledge of the community development sector and the regional landscape of community-based organizations, foundations, banks, affordable housing organizations, food and farm businesses, as well as government entities. This position is based in Fresno, CA to deepen our work within Fresno and surrounding Central Valley Counties.

This position is responsible for driving the development of a robust partner ecosystem that leverages Community Vision products and services to support clients and business partners.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Community Outreach

  • Represent the voice, vision, and mission of Community Vision at strategically identified community meetings, convenings, and conferences.
  • Collaborate in the creation of materials that provide informative analysis and/or inspirational, mission-aligned content for various audiences, including the community, the Board of Directors, funders, and investors.
  • Perform preliminary quantitative and qualitative analysis to identify and monitor high-impact projects in the Central Valley region.
  • Perform general regional outreach to regional nonprofits, municipalities, mission-aligned businesses, and other potential clients.
  • Evaluate the fit of prospective clients with Community Vision’s program offerings across Lending, Consulting, and Catalytic Capital, and facilitate a smooth handoff to program staff.
  • Capture complete information on prospective clients in Community Vision’s Salesforce database.

● Maintain a database of referral resources to provide to clients.

Partnerships

  • Identify strategic partnerships and collaborations for Community Vision’s participation.
  • Support and track the execution of multiple projects that are part of the area portfolio.
  • Collaborate with Community Vision departments and external partners to develop and implement marketing strategies to support loan pipeline development, consulting opportunities, and fundraising activities.
  • Cultivate and maintain numerous external relationships with investors, funders, clients, vendors, partners, and other aligned organizations.

● Work with appropriate staff to create and implement a funder outreach strategy.

These relationships include some of the following cross-sectoral collaborations:

  • Community Facilities Challenge at Fresno State (FSU)
  • PRO Fresno/Fresno Community Capital Collaborative for Economic Mobility
  • Developing the Region’s Inclusive and Vibrant Economy (DRIVE)

Administrative Coordination

This position is critical to the planning and implementation of Central Valley-based programming.

Activities include:

  • Supporting internal organizational culture.
  • Helping plan team-building activities, including team off-sites.
  • Working across departments as a member of the Strategic Initiatives to implement special programs in the Central Valley.
  • Facilitating the Central Valley Workgroup and Central Valley Advisory Council.
  • Attending regular staff meetings (via conference call and/or in person).
  • Working with Strategic Initiative to collect, input, and track impact data.
  • Supporting appropriate staff with applications and reports to external funders.
  • Preparing internal reports and presentations as requested.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Ideal qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in program development, project management, small business support, social enterprise development, community economic development, public policy leadership development, or program evaluation
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with low-income communities of color in the Central Valley or similar community
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of people and communities
  • Design thinking and/or experience with rapid iteration and evaluation of pilot projects to develop innovative and viable solutions to social issues
  • Knowledge of economic development, small business and entrepreneurship support, food systems, especially healthy food retail models, food policy, and community and/or urban planning
  • Knowledge of economic justice, civic engagement, community leadership development, and community organizing models
  • Experience with providing technical assistance, consulting, and training, including curriculum development, webinars, group presentations, and individual consultations
  • Strong commitment to racial equity and social justice
  • Ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience collaborating with staff, interns, contractors, and volunteers
  • Well organized and self-motivated with good time management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; facilitation skills helpful
  • Ability to manage and negotiate contracts
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, online document-sharing platforms, and social media
  • Automobile required and valid California Driver’s License
  • Ability to conduct site visits throughout the Central Valley and to attend meetings and events in the Bay Area

MORE ABOUT THE POSITION

The Community Development Officer is a full-time non-exempt position. This position reports to the VP of External Relations. The salary for this position is between $82,500 - $105,000 annually, depending on experience. Benefits include: 100% health insurance premium coverage for employees and a contribution towards dependent coverage, dental insurance, long-term disability and life insurance, transportation and cell phone subsidies, employer contributions towards retirement savings, three weeks’ vacation, and a commitment to work/life balance. Occasional evenings and out of area travel may be necessary. The position involves regular computer and telephone use plus some minimal lifting. This position is based in our Fresno, CA office. All staff are working remotely until further notice.
