Summary:

Within the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools' Office of School Options and Innovation, the Department of Career and Technical Education (CTE) provides project-based, career-focused learning to accelerate students along the path to success in college and careers. Learning is both classroom and work based with all high school programs of study articulating to industry credentials, 2 year degrees and/or 4 year degrees. CTE also supports the work of our middle and early colleges where students simultaneously pursue a high school diploma and an Associate's Degree and/or up to two years of transferrable college credit. CTE is present in every CMS middle and high school and serves over 50,000 students.

Essential Responsibilities for Assigned School:

Pathway Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate and support CTE Career Pathways throughout the master schedule process to insure students are scheduled in the correct next course in the pathway sequence by training and assisting school based staff to understand the pathway matriculation process.
  • Promotes, maintains, and tracks student credentials (certifications) in all CTE program areas.

Testing Responsibilities:

  • Acts as the Building Level Coordinator for all CTE Assessments, to include State Assessments, Local Courses, Project Lead the Way, and teacher made assessments.
  • Knowledge and ability to explain the information within the most current CTE Status of Curriculum and Assessment, Essential Standards, State Assessments guides, Testing Code of Ethics.
  • Provides technical assistance and support for teachers in understanding and implementing the CTE computerized instructional management system (NCCTE Admin).
  • Assist Testing Coordinator with aligning all ACT Workkey Concentrators by identifying and compiling.
  • Collaborates with CTE Instructional Facilitator along with school EC and EL departments to ensure students receive the proper plan of study and assessments per state guidelines.

Data & Technology Management Responsibilities:

  • Perform ongoing enrollment verifications, data corrections, and data audits for all CTE, including NAF and PLTW
  • Management and proper use of all CTE technology to include: hardware, software, inventory, Cherwell tickets and working with Central Office staff to resolve any issues

Instructional Facilitation Responsibilities:

  • Provides instructional coaching to support teachers in curriculum management, teaching/learning and use of data to impact student learning.
  • Facilitate Professional Learning Communities for CTE teachers.
  • Leverage data to collaborate with building administration and CTE teachers to identify growth metrics for all CTE Proofs of Learning and develop an action plan for achieving growth measures
  • Design and deliver professional learning to facilitate improvement of all performance indicators that align with the NC Teacher Evaluation, CTE Local School Plan and district initiatives
  • Verify and submit orders for all CTE Programs at assigned school

Career Development Responsibilities

  • Serve as the school liaison for all external partnerships including the Mayor's Youth Employment Program
  • Collaborate with CTE teachers, CTE Instructional Facilitator and central office to build high quality work-based learning that supports pathway development to include partnerships, internships, apprenticeships, field trips, job shadows and speakers
  • Assure that all CTE students create CFNC or Naviance accounts
  • Develop, manage and track CTE Central Piedmont Community College cohort
  • Connect and complete Concentrator Feedback Survey with at least 85% completion
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

Minimum

  • BS Degree and current license in any CTE program area or a BS Degree and current license in Curriculum Development or Instructional Technology
  • Five years of work experience within the past eight years in one of the following three areas:
  • classroom teacher in a CTE program area
  • professional support in an educational setting:
    • Career Development Coordinator
    • Special Populations Coordinator
    • Curriculum Specialist
  • Instructional Technology Specialist
  • Hold a current CTE License or eligible to obtain the CTE Instructional Management Coordinator License

Licensing / Certification Requirements:

  • Eligible for CTE 830 Instructional Management Coordinator (per state release July of current year)
  • Current CTE license or current license in Curriculum Instructional Specialist OR Instructional Technology Specialist - computers or telecommunications.
  • Clearing Specific requirements:
    • Provisional License must be added by the LEA during first year of hire
    • Induction - 40 hour Instructional Coordinator Induction program approved by the NC Dept. of Instruction, Division of Career and Technical Education is required
    • MOS Certification - Excel

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Maintain knowledge of NC CTE Essential Standards, 21st Century Skills, Current State and local Graduation Requirements to foster career and college opportunities for students
  • Ability to organize
  • Passion for details and enjoys logistics
  • Ability to use Excel or related software to extract and manipulate data
  • Ability and desire to seek and pass on knowledge to others in an educational/learning environment
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership and work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school based staff, students, parents and the community
  • Ability to work confidentially and with discretion
  • Knowledge of computer generated technology and electronics
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local policies and regulations governing CTE programs in North Carolina
