Job Summary:
Process incoming and outgoing shipments per operational procedures and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties, including record keeping, data entry and storing. Supervises up to 3 employees. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records, and to assure items are not damaged. Confers with Buyer and/or Planner about receipt deficiencies. Performs receipt transactions in the MRP system.
  • Inspect physical condition of warehouse and equipment, including preparing work orders for repairs and replacement of equipment.
  • Calculates shipping charges, based on carrier request and completing necessary shipping paperwork. Determining most economical method of shipment as required. POD and tracking of shipments. Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages
. • Route items to departments and/or stages material for material control coordinator. Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications. Secure courier services as required.

  • Maintains inventory of unique shipping materials and supplies to accommodate small special orders. Must be trained in HAZMAT packaging and shipping procedures.
  • Operates tier lift truck or uses hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipment from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area. Must be a certified forklift operator.
  • Participates in planning personnel safety and plant protection activities, maintains order lines of department through routine housekeeping.
  • Coordinates shipment of repair and/or return of material. Skills: • Internal Customer Service - Responds promptly to customer needs and responds to requests for service and assistance and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality. • Quantity - Meets productivity standards, completes work in timely manner, and works quickly.
Education and/or Experience :
  • Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two to three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • To perform this job successfully requires the use of personal computer (word processing, electronic mail, spreadsheets, etc.), mainframe computer interface, and ten key calculator.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
