Job description
OCDE’s Educational Services Division is currently seeking a dynamic professional to serve as the Coordinator, Substance Use and Mental Health Services. The Coordinator, Substance Use and Mental Health Services will provide training to School-Based Mental Health staff on screening for and conducting brief intervention and referral to treatment for substance use or co-occurring disorders. This Coordinator will support districts and serve as a consultant to establish and refine related student support programs, practices, and policies for addressing substance use issues in schools. Additionally, this coordinator will train staff in the use of evidence-based screening and brief intervention models, such as the Youth Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (YSBIRT) or other similar models and tools, to identify and provide early intervention and service linkage for students who may be experiencing a co-occurring substance use disorder or risky substance use behavior. The coordinator will also support individual cases referred for case coordination services.
The position is grant funded through September 2024.

Education, Training and Experience:

Any combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way of obtaining the knowledge and abilities would be:
  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university, coursework in mental health, counseling, psychology social work, marriage and family therapy, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of full-time experience working in substance abuse counseling or substance abuse prevention related to mental health, education, or social service.
  • A valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential is preferred.
  • A valid CA license or registered associate to practice as a Marriage & Family Therapist, Professional Clinical Social Worker or Clinical Psychologist is preferred.
  • Current advanced certification as an Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Counselor from a state-approved certifying organization preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, or Farsi preferred.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
  • Salary (210 days): $9,133.27 - $11,126.80 Monthly
