Job description
In this role, you will cut metal parts and fit or assemble them into various structures. It is essential to fabricate these parts according to technical blueprints, so you must use measuring tools to check your work. Responsible for designing, fabricating, joining, and repairing equipment, fixtures, and structures by using various welding techniques; managing the machines that manufacture and repair metal structures, tools, and equipment; and follows all safety protocols in performing duties. Applicants must have experience fitting and welding steel, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Salary negotiations start at $25.00/hr.
Steel Fabricator Duties and Responsibilities
- Fabricate steel and other metal parts according to blueprints
- Lay out cutting lines
- Checks if a workpiece meets the specifications by using square, ruler, and measuring tape
- Lays out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers
- Clamps, holds, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding
- Fit fabricated steel items
- Detects faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notifies Field Superintendent and assists with maintaining and repairing all machinery
- Examines work pieces for defects and measures work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications
- Maintain tools and equipment
- Follows safety protocol, including wearing heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, and safety shoes
