Description:

The Carpentry teacher instructs a series of courses that provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary in preparation to work in the construction industry. The teacher will begin using NCCER Core and Sustainable Construction curriculum to introduce students to the construction industry and then teach Carpentry Level 1 and Carpentry Framing & Finishing Level 2 to deliver industry-based instruction using NCCER curriculum that develops student competencies leading to postsecondary education and employment. Teacher will instruct students to design and construct buildings while progressing through home building exercises and learning the integration and sequencing of all construction trades.

Teacher will:

1. Provide rigorous and relevant instruction using hands-on curriculum in the content area and general work-place readiness.

2. Integrate soft-skill instruction into competency-based content area activities.

3. Support students in industry relevant competitions, industry exploration activities, professional organizations and postsecondary initiatives.

4. Show evidence of project-based learning

5. Collaborate with core content teachers on common course planning, integration and alignment.

7. Attend all relevant professional development set by the Career Readiness Department in order to provide the best educational experience possible for students.


Essential Functions:

  • Plans, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
  • Demonstrates and differentiate methods required to perform classroom and/or subject specific assignments for the purpose of providing an effective program addressing individual student requirements.
  • Develops instructional plan which is compatible with the school and system-wide curricular goals; uses diagnostic information obtained from tests and other assessment procedures to develop and revise objectives and/or tasks; maintains accurate records to document student performance; has instructional plan that matches/aligns objectives, learning strategies, assessment and student needs at the appropriate level of difficulty; uses available human and material resources to support the instructional program.
  • Uses relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Maintains discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school. Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
  • Establishes and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Observes and evaluate student's performance and development.
  • Communicates necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, cafeteria, playground, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment

Degrees, Certificates/Experience Required:

Desirable Qualification: Construction Teaching License or eligible with Bachelor’s Degree in a related area and two years relevant work experience in the last 5 years

Minimum: High School Diploma and six years relevant work experience in the last 10 years.

Machinery, Equipment and Tools experience required:

Hand held power tools, table saws, drill press, miter saws, nails guns, sanders, scaffolding, ladders, saws, wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, nails, screws, pry bars, wrecking bars, dollies, shop vacuums, laptop.
