Job Description

This Data Scientist (Database Administrator) position is on the Data Modernization Team within the Center for Health Data and Analysis and will focus on documenting data sharing policies, having standardized data structures, incorporate predictive analytics focus and cross-cutting insights. This position is responsible for the overall data governance and data science initiatives and will develop and implement strategies for safe and efficient data sharing and utilization across the company, and will leverage cutting edge data science practices, including predictive analytics, to address cross-cutting data priorities as identified in Department-wide design thinking sessions. Implementation of more efficient data sharing practices can reduce inefficiencies/redundancies and increase the quantity and quality of cross-cutting analyses and insights that inform decision making.

Functions/Duties

  • Development and implementation of a data governance and data science plan.
  • Coordination with internal and external partners, including IT and Informatics, and facilitation of agency-wide workgroups.
  • Develop and implement training on data sharing processes (internal and external)
  • Identify data sharing management tool to track row level data requests.
  • Develop Department-wide standards for data integrity and standardized formats.
  • Utilize vendor to conduct assessments of optimal code base languages and code sharing.
  • Assist with conducting assessment of needed data warehousing infrastructure.
  • Identify cross-cutting data questions/projects for data science sprints, building on input gathered at design thinking sessions.
  • Identify use cases for predictive analytics in public health.
  • Utilize data science approach to address cross-cutting data questions and projects.
  • Develop and implement a plan for increasing awareness and utilization of agile methodology and data science.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Demonstrated skills in effective project management and leadership.
  • Knowledge of data governance practices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of audiences, such as department officials, academic partners, and community representatives.
  • Strong interpersonal and cultural competency as well as strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop and effectively deliver presentations

Education And Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Science, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, computer science or related
  • Experience with data lakes and associated governance policies.
  • Experience with data sharing protocols and security considerations, particularly for health-related topics
  • Experience with data science and advanced analytics
  • Experience with agile methodology

Salary: $50.00 - $68.37 per hour
