Job description

This individual is responsible for and coordinates all activities within the Truck Shop ensuring that proper safety, OSHA, EPA, and Federal DOT guidelines are followed. This individual is ultimately responsible for all maintenance and repairs on all fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, forklifts, and company automobiles.

Diesel Mechanic Duties and Responsibilities

• Diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance of all fleet vehicles and automobiles
• Coordinate equipment maintenance activities with the Logistics Manager and Warehouse Manager; provide feedback regarding equipment availability
• Determine the extent of necessary repairs, scheduling of repairs, and associated cost/material estimates
• Meet DOT inspection requirements on all applicable fleet units
• Maintain complete service history files on all fleet equipment at a level that meets or exceeds DOT requirements
• Order parts and supplies and manage the relationships with outside suppliers as necessary
• Operates and maintains a complete set of hand, power, shop tools, and computerized diagnostic /test equipment used in the automotive and truck/trailer repair trade.
• Schedule repairs with outside vendors as necessary and check to ensure proper completion
• Meet OSHA standards on safety /work practices; meet EPA standards on chemical handling /waste disposal
• Read and interpret schematics, shop manuals, and other related materials in performing work assignments and to stay abreast of the current technology
• Access technical information from automated databases; enter data into and retrieve/print/generate vehicle, equipment, and work order reports from the computer information system
• Maintain work, time, material, and equipment maintenance logs and records
• Respond to emergency service calls for repairing or towing equipment that has broken down away from the shop
• Keep the truck shop in a neat and orderly condition
• Improve career skills by enrolling yourself in appropriate training with the approval of the Warehouse Manager
• Support and follow all established company policies and procedures including the safety program and good housekeeping
• May assist in budget preparation by recommending equipment and fleet service expenditures
• Maintain positive and productive communications with all relationships
• Must follow all company policies and procedures

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $28.00 per hour
