Position Summary

Department: Developmental Disabilities

Educational Level: High School diploma or equivalent. Tech school completion certification is acceptable

Work schedule: Part time

Salary: $18-$21 per hour

We are looking to fill a part time position in Egg Harbor Township.

Saturday and Sunday 8am - 4pm

The Direct Support Professional is responsible for a variety of duties related to the overall care of the individual we serve. Their main duties include helping our participants complete basic housekeeping tasks, transporting patients to appointments or other social outings and keeping them safe from potential health hazards in their surrounding environment. This may also include activities of daily living, such as bathing, grooming, feeding and other self-care necessities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

A. Activities of Daily Living

· Provides transportation to and from activities.

· Assists in the implementation of individual plans for individuals and/or behavioral plan goals.

· Assists individuals in the pursuit of recreational, social and community activities based on their preferences and individual plans.

· Assists and encourages individuals in the establishment of social networks.

· Promotes participation and involvement in community outings.

· Works all assigned schedules, including but not limited to arriving and departing on time,

· Requesting time off in advance and notifying your supervisor of changes to your assigned work schedule.

· Ensures each members rights are protected.

· Treats members with dignity and respect.

· Administers medications to individuals as assigned.

· Observes individuals for any changes in behavior or health that may have resulted from

medication administration.

· Ensures individuals are dressed neatly and appropriately and are groomed at all times.

· Assists and encourages individuals to care for immediate personal needs such as toileting,

washing their hands and eating.

· Prepares nutritional meals based on individual needs and preferences.

· Encourage individuals to assist in the preparation of meals and snacks as appropriate to their individual plan and behavior plan.

· Keeps residence – both interior and exterior – and resident personal space clean, organized, and tidy and encourage them to participation in home beautification and upkeep as appropriate according to their individual plans.

· Teaches individuals daily skills such as household chores, laundry, cleaning, and washing dishes, as appropriate according to their individual plan.

B. Communication

· Strong communication skills

· Interpersonal and listening abilities are needed to be successful in this role

· Should be empathetic and dedicated to finding ways to improve the health and wellbeing of their patients.

· Strong organizational skills

· Should also work well under pressure and calmly handle high-stress emergency situations, as patients’ health may drastically and unexpectedly change.

· Helping patients complete basic housekeeping tasks such as washing dishes vacuuming, and tidying

· Transporting patients to appointments or other social outings

· Keeping patients safe from potential health hazards in their surrounding environment

· Assisting clients with daily personal tasks, including bathing and dressing

· Helping plan client appointments and organize a schedule

· Shopping for groceries and preparing meals that meet specific client dietary need

· Encouraging client engagement in social networks and communities

· Trustworthiness and dependability so clients and their families feel comfortable relying on them

C. Safety

· Physical stamina when performing tasks such as lifting or turning their clients

· Attention to detail, especially when adhering to specific protocols and rules while carefully following instructions to care for the needs of the client

· You ensure a clean, safe and protected environment

D. Documentation

· Maintaining files and records

· Document medications given to the patient daily

· Must regularly take and store detailed reports on their patients’ progress to later report to their Physician

· Stay updated with Physician about treatment plans accordingly

Job Requirements

· Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record Health Focused Living’s policy

· 18 years old or older

· 6 months to two years’ experience working with people with developmental disabilities.

· Ability to lift/push/pull 50lbs.

· Ability to work on holidays and during inclement weather.

· Attention to detail, especially when adhering to specific protocols and rules while carefully following instructions to care for the needs of the client

· Integrity to ensure clients feel safe and comfortable when tending to personal activities such as helping them bathe

· Trustworthiness and dependability so clients and their families feel comfortable relying on them

· Interpersonal skills when working with clients, including having compassion and being sensitive to their emotional needs when they are in extreme distress or pain

· Physical stamina when performing tasks such as lifting or turning their clients
