Position Location: This is hybrid position that affords some work from home and some work from the Pittsboro Office. The Attorney will be expected to do some travel to all of our region’s counties (Alamance, Anson, Chatham, Lee, Moore, Orange and Richmond Counties).

Position Summary: The Pittsboro Office is seeking an experienced DV attorney to supervise DV and Custody work in our office. The ideal candidate is passionate about Family Law practice, is a creative problem solver, is motivated, and has proven team leadership ability. The position requires the ability to multitask, handle a caseload of domestic violence files, supervising, and reviewing work of staff attorneys and paralegals, The Supervisor will also oversee outreach and community education efforts and will provide support as necessary to the Managing Attorney.

Job Description: The Supervising Attorney will:

  • Provide direct legal services to clients in domestic violence and other related cases to provide holistic solutions to families in crisis.
  • Handle a broad variety of tasks that facilitate the team’s mission of effective, high quality legal services in the Pittsboro Region that complies with LANC priorities.
  • Seek out community partnerships and education opportunities, particularly in our rural communities.
  • Work with the Managing Attorney to supervise, mentor, train, and direct team members.
  • Collaborate with the outreach coordinator and LANC communications office to plan outreach events, provide community education to the public, community partners, and, more, specifically justice involved people.
  • Represent Legal Aid in the legal community by engaging and seeking membership in professional associations that allow for collaboration with the legal community.

Qualifications: Candidates applying for this position should have the following qualifications:

  • A commitment to, appreciation for and understanding of organizational values around diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • A juris doctorate and a license to practice law in the State of North Carolina and a minimum of three years of legal experience.
  • No pending North Carolina State Bar disciplinary proceedings.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervision skills.
  • Superior knowledge of domestic violence and family law.
  • A spirit of collaboration with both internal and external partners
  • Ability to develop, grow and maintain internal and external alliances.
  • Willing to travel within a 2-hour radius – including some Saturdays for outreach events.
  • Self-motivated, with the proven ability to set goals and meet self-imposed and external deadlines.
  • Work well in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Honest, trustworthy, reliable, and open to feedback
  • Strong communication and writing skills.

Salary and Employee Benefits: The salary range for this leadership role is competitive and will be commensurate with the candidate’s competencies and experience. Legal Aid of North Carolina provides excellent health, retirement, disability, and leave benefits. Employee medical, vision, dental, and life insurance premiums are covered at 100% by the employer. Discretionary 401(k) contributions with no match required. Paid leave includes 1.75 days per month (21 leave days in the first two years; 30 days in subsequent years), 12 paid holidays, two floating holidays, and other paid leave.
