Your Specific Responsibilities:


The Education and Training Specialist for the Florida Department of Health in Lee County maintains the agency’s organizational training strategy, oversees its implementation, and assesses its outcomes. The incumbent will identity training and developmental gaps and will develop suitable training initiatives that build a skilled workforce. The Education and Training specialist will work across many departments to assist supervisors in developing department specific training curricula, as well as developing the agency’s overall strategic multi-year training plan. Responsibilities of the incumbent include enhancing employees’ skills, performance, productivity, and quality of work.


Education and Training

  • Develop the organizational and individual multi-year training and development plans that address gaps and expectations.
  • Monitor and evaluate training program’s effectiveness, success, and return on investment periodically and report results to managers and the leadership team.
  • Support new hires through the orientation period and on-the-job training process, including facilitating new employee orientation.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to identify training needs and develop suitable training programs.
  • Design and deliver e-learning courses, workshops, and other trainings.
  • Develop or oversee the production of classroom handouts, instructional materials, aids, and manuals.
  • Coordinate, manage, and track Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for staff utilizing the CE Broker / Nursing In-Service Program.
  • Ensure that all staff members complete mandatory DOH training in accordance with state and local policies.
  • Develop course material for Microsoft Office products and train staff in their use.
  • Stay abreast of new trends and tools in employee development.
  • Monitor the education and training budget

Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator

  • Create and update user profiles.
  • Assign training plans and courses to staff members.
  • Create courses and plans.
  • Monitor and verify completion of courses.
  • Track selected metrics to ensure staff development and training requirements meet or exceed mandated expectations.
  • Provide reports for use by employees and managers.
  • Manage course registrations/generate class rosters.

Miscellaneous

  • Maintain programmatic documentation
  • Develop and facilitate the annual all-staff in-service event.
  • Assist program management with facilitating and conducting training and exercises.
  • Assist employees with their training presentations, ensuring fidelity to the DOH Brand and Standard Guide.
  • Responsible for conference room reservations and coordinating room set-up, audio/video specifications, and acting as liaison for all guest presenters/lecturers.

Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.

  • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
  • Selected immunizations or titers and/or periodic screening for tuberculosis may be recommended for this position.
  • This position will abide by all state and federal laws, rules, and DOH policies and procedures.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid Florida Driver License and have a motor vehicle to carry out these duties.
