Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Enterprise Data Steward!

About the role

A successful data organization is critical to meeting our Symetra Empowers goals. An Enterprise Data Steward focuses on establishing accountability for the data produced and ultimately consumed, unlocking its value, and empowering a customer-focused business. This individual will contribute to shifting the responsibility and accountability for data to the teams that generate the data. Join us in establishing data trust through accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data and keep a check on whether our data adheres to access and confidentiality expectations.

What you will do
  • Lead work to bring our data strategy to life by working with our central data governance team and business domains to incorporate data mesh principles into our data management and data sharing
  • Bring your data governance playbook knowledge and roll up your sleeves to mature our data governance program to the next level
  • Contribute to establishing a set of global standards, policies, and processes that all data domains and data product owners follow
  • Work with strategic initiatives and lead conversations to understand data consumers data expectations, identify and resolve areas of concern
  • Enlist business division support and ensure data domain ownership of data products
  • Learn about Snowflake data governance features and provide guidance to our business divisions on how to apply them to their data products.
  • Lead and mentor the data governance matrix team members (data owners, data stewards, data managers, data architects, data consumers, etc.), ensuring team members are trained on data governance frameworks, policies, standards, processes, and technologies.
  • Work collaboratively with centralized and decentralized data domain and product owners to ensure they understand their data governance responsibilities and mentor their implementation of data products that are discoverable, secure, compliant, and trusted
  • Guide data consumers on defining data quality expectations for the data producers and mentor on repeatable data quality tracking and resolution practices
  • Audit that global polices and standards are followed and that data products no longer accessed are retired
  • Assesses data products are defined, cataloged, classified, secured, compliant, and the state of data quality defined, monitored, and improved
  • Drive decisions and responsibility as close to data creation as possible

Compensation

Salary Range: $88,600 – $147,600 plus eligibility for annual bonus program


Your experience and skills
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of experience
  • 5+ years' experience working within a formal Data Governance program as a Data Steward and/or Data Quality Analyst
  • Experience with establishing and executing data governance standards and practices
  • Familiarity with the Data Management Book of Knowledge (DMBOK)
  • CDMP certification a plus
  • Experience with data analysis, data governance, data quality, business data modeling and/or reporting
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • SQL query writing experience required
  • Experience mentoring and leading business data stewards
  • Experience establishing master data management and/or data quality management
  • Agile project management skills required
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with Financial Services terminology, concepts, business processes and systems within a core data domain a plus
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence others
  • Able to present to internal audiences of varying levels within the organization
  • Self-directed and proficient with identifying work activities and tracking outcomes
  • Minimal travel required
