The University of Maryland, Baltimore Department of Medicine, Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine is seeking an experienced exposure scientist to support the development of a military exposure research program. This program is a multicenter-sponsored project designed to improve exposure characterization for health outcome studies of military exposure. The candidate would join a project team serving as a consultant to a multicenter program staff providing expertise in exposure evaluation and capacity-building in exposure characterization.

Primary Duties:
  • Provide subject matter expertise for the development of exposure assessment learning modules.
  • Evaluate innovative exposure technology for feasibility, utility, value and implementation considerations for measuring exposures.
  • Evaluate available exposure data sources to identify strengths, limitations and applicability to populations of interest.
  • Evaluate and advise on specimen collection protocols, supplies and equipment.
  • Collaborate with government and non-government contacts to identify and evaluate exposure technology options and other exposure identification resources.
  • Work with key points of contact in other project core organizations to provide recommendations for identifying exposed cohorts for investigator projects.
  • Identify federal exposure resources including Safety Data Sheets, datasets, tools, and capabilities.
  • Identify key characteristics for selecting certified labs able to measure exposures of interest.
  • Create an online catalog of resources , including exposure assessment technology and tools.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in public health, environmental health, industrial hygiene, chemistry, or a related field. Doctoral degree in related fields is preferred.

Experience: Five (5) years of experience working in industrial hygiene practice or in research related to environmental exposures.

Hiring Range: $97,000 - $108,000 (Commensurate with education and experience)
