The California Republic Leadership Academy Capistrano is a startup, TK-8, public charter school launching in South Orange County for the 2023-24 school year. The Mission of the California Republic Leadership Academy is to develop the next generation of leaders in mind, character, and practice through a virtue-based education that leads a scholar to servant leadership through the pursuit of truth and the development of virtue and wisdom. CRLA Capistrano will utilize a Classical Education model.

Position Overview

The Campus Operations Manager manages the facility to ensure a clean school facility that is maintained to provide a safe, secure and comfortable environment conducive to student learning. Additionally, the Campus Operations Manager will supervise and manage campus monitors, as well as oversee the meal plans for our students and families.

Essential Duties and Requirements

  • Oversees execution of cleaning classrooms, rest rooms, hallways, multipurpose room, offices and all interior rooms to code standards, including day-to-day, deep cleaning, emergency cleanups, and set-ups/cleans during meal periods
  • Overseas routine grounds-keeping duties, including picking up litter, weeding, mowing the lawn
  • Oversees arrangement of furniture for assemblies, meetings and special events
  • Oversee responsibility for locking and unlocking doors, windows and gates, and turning security system on/off daily
  • Executes cleaning classrooms, rest rooms, hallways, multipurpose room, offices and all interior rooms to code standards, including day-to-day, deep cleaning, emergency cleanups, and set-ups/cleans during meal periods
  • Coordinates routine maintenance, including touch-up painting, replacing light bulbs, stucco repair, etc.
  • Identifies and corrects any major security or safety hazards and major repair needs. Submit requests for deferred maintenance projects to Principal and Facilities Manager for capital improvements and tenant improvement projects
  • Negotiates school contracts to ensure best price for services
  • Plans and meets consistently with outside consultants and vendors (E.g., City, County, Fire, Water, Gas/Electric, Waste Management)
  • Manages the quality of services completed on site including janitorial, lunch service, and construction contractors
  • Supervise students during lunch / recess and passing periods, including enforcing school rules, school boundaries, and school behavior expectations
  • Ensure a safe environment in the lunch area, school grounds and/or parking lot
  • Work with other school staff to ensure sufficient level of supervision coverage in all areas of the lunch room, school yards, and/or parking lot
  • Schedules campus monitor assignments
  • Provides supervision, oversight, and feedback to campus monitors
  • Confers with the principal regarding updates/issues with campus monitor staff
  • Manage equipment and playground safety daily
  • Supervises students during lunch / recess and passing periods, including enforcing school rules, school boundaries, and school behavior expectations
  • Administers first aid as needed
  • Coordinates and manages night cleaning service and contractors to ensure building and grounds are well-cleaned and maintained, and a regular schedule of major cleaning is kept (e.g. polishing floors, steam cleaning carpets, etc.)
  • Develops and maintains Mealtime systems including set up, service and cleanup of lunch
  • Manage the HVAC Energy Management System, lighting, and door closure schedules
  • May be responsible for locking and unlocking doors, windows and gates, and turning security system on/off
  • Manages facilities inventory; orders cleaning, building, and all other operational supplies for multiple school sites; manages invoices
  • Support Principal and/or Business Manager with development of plan for 24-7 coverage relating to building usage, custodial, grounds, maintenance, safety, security, and emergencies. Writes safety incident reports and follows up as necessary.
  • Perform and coordinate the usage of facilities by School personnel/groups and organizations within the community; set-ups, teardowns, clean-up, and staff scheduling
  • Supports principal in working with public regulatory entities to ensure compliance. (e.g., Fire Department, CDE, Police Department, Inspectors)
  • Support Principal and Office Manager in budget management for facilities projects and maintenance
  • Works closely with other site staff, especially in support of Office Managers and teachers
  • Leads school wide initiatives and projects as they relate to facilities management
  • Ongoing awareness and readiness to respond to safety/security needs of students, staff and facilities
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Minimum educational level:

  • A.A. Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferred

Experience required:

QUALIFICATIONS: Required knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Ability to manage, guide and support facility staff
  • Knowledge of safe and efficient use of cleaning materials, chemicals, tools and equipment
  • Ability to complete minor maintenance, e.g., replace light bulbs/filters up to mid-level maintenance, e.g., stucco repair, plaster wall repair
  • Ability to maintain complex records
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability and willingness to meet the physical requirements necessary to perform the required duties, including ability to lift, carry, push, pull and move heavy objects on a regular basis
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form, with both students and adults
  • Ability to interact appropriately with children of different ages in school setting respecting and understanding boundaries

Physical Demands:

  • Stand, walk or bend over, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, and pull. Move, lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds to shoulder height.
  • Repetitive use of hands (i.e. fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping).
  • Demonstrate normal depth perception.
  • Sitting, walking or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone
  • See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids.
  • Distinguish colors.
  • Read and understand rules and policies, labels, and instructions. Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone.
  • Verbal communications, including the ability to speak and hear at normal room levels and on the telephone.

Work Environment:
