FITNESS & WELLNESS MANAGER

METROPOLITAN CLUB

SAN FRANCISCO, CA

The Metropolitan Club is a private women’s athletic and social club in downtown San Francisco.
Founded in 1915 as the Women’s Athletic Club. As the Fitness & Wellness Manager you are responsible for ensuring that the administration and organization of the Metropolitan Club’s fitness facilities and programs are run smoothly.

The Fitness & Wellness Manager supervises the fitness instructors and trainers and will report to the
General Manager of the Club. The Fitness & Wellness Manager role is a part-time position. Additionally, this individual will be able to provided limited personal training to our members as additional compensation.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Marketing the facility to current members by promoting classes, personal training, and any special events related to Fitness and Wellness.
  • Managing the Fitness and Wellness staff, including dealing with the technical aspects of fitness facilities and equipment, as well as and health and safety.
  • Recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, troubleshooting, evaluating and completing payroll for fitness staff; updating staff training materials and operating manuals.
  • Assisting with developing, adjusting and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Equipment inventory and maintenance, including health and safety checks.
  • Keeping and compiling ongoing member and/or guest usage statistics.
  • Providing instruction, outreach and orientation sessions for members.
  • Providing annual fitness evaluation to members.
  • Working with the Fitness & Wellness Committee in soliciting programing ideas to meet the needs of the membership.
  • Serving as a substitute for other instructors when needed.
  • Available as a personal training resource to members for a fee.

Qualities

  • Personally driven to provide programs and classes of all sorts that are designed to increase the overall health and wellbeing of the members.

  • A high level of professionalism and the personal presence needed to be well regarded by the membership.
  • At least two years of experience hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating and supervising fitness facility and staff; must be able to train fitness attendants in proper strength and cardio equipment usage
  • Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Health and Wellness or related field with 3 to 5 years prior experience in group exercise, personal training and with 3 to 5 years in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Certification in group fitness from a nationally recognized fitness organization e.g., AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America), ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine, ACE Group

Fitness Certification), NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) or other national certification in personal training preferred.

  • Certification by American Red Cross in Adult CPR and First Aid required within one month of hire.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
