Performs a variety of tasks including following proper procedures in answering telephone calls from the nursing floors and interpreting those request for special diets. Heads menus while editing them for special diet needs, records meal information into the computer system for information tracking and provides all production areas with necessary menu item counts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Maintain a current food handler’s card with person in charge training required by local health department.

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Retrieves all patient diet orders from the computer system.

2. Enters all diet information into the dietary menu system in preparations for patient rounds, diet, snack and supplement orders.

3. Visits patient rooms and assists them in the selection of their menu choices while encouraging diet compliance.

4. Saves all patient information collected, follows procedure for menus to be printed and upon return to the dietary makes sure all patients were visited and menus are present.

5. Prints and posts all necessary information for daily productions of the cooks, salads, diet kitchen and bake shop areas. Posts floor diet/meal counts as a reference for the cooks productions areas.

6. Answers calls from the patient floors interpreting their diet requests, suggest items for diet compliance and forward that information to all productions areas.

7. Assists on the patient serving line making sure all trays are assembled in compliance with the proper diet orders.

8. Monitors portion sizes during tray operations.

9. Provides quality services to result in customer/patient satisfaction.

10. Remains focused on the patient and service throughout the encounter.

11. Maintains knowledge about food ingredients, allergens, supplements and available substitutes.

12. Addresses patient complaints in a polite professional manner. Seeks management assistance when needed.

13. Ensures that all activities meet sanitation, safety and quality control guidelines set forth by departmental policies.

14. Assists with documentation of refrigerator, dish machine or other equipment temperatures as assigned. Documents sanitation checks.

15. Alerts facilities and management of malfunctioning equipment.

16. Properly operates, cleans and stores equipment in assigned area.

17. Properly cleans and sanitized work surfaces throughout scheduled shift.

18. Properly stores and labels food items and chemicals.

1. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

2. Ability to stand for entire shift.

3. Ability to pull a fully loaded patient meal cart (approx. 250 lbs.)
