The Grant Writer is committed to advancing the mission and the vision of the Diocese of San José. The Grant writer reports to the Director of Stewardship and Development. Responsible for managing and cultivating relationships with foundations, as well as creating and maintaining a foundations portfolio. This position also works with other Chancery staff as requested by the Director. The Grant Writer is responsible for the Diocese of San José grant systems administration. The writer will work with staff in all phases of a grant cycle and maintain current and accurate records of grants.

This position will be responsible to assist in guiding a planned development for new foundations cultivation and ways to better engage them in the areas of common interest.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: (other duties may be assigned)

Maintain and improve agency grant data management systems.

Coordinate the cycle of agency grants with the Stewardship and Development team.

Draft and edit grant applications and reports.

Coordinate the preparation of and analyze the budget portions of grant applications and reports.

Maintain and develop relationships with funding organizations.

Research suspect and prospect funding opportunities.

Carefully proofread and confirmed data in draft grant applications and reports.

Communicate the Diocesan brand with clarity, consistency, and authenticity.

Support advocacy activities especially those related to grant funding.

Reviews and prepares information and reports for internal and external stakeholders. Edits and organizes grant documents written by other staff, and research-related information and data.

Facilitates workshops for and provides technical assistance to staff, Pastors, and Diocesan Catholic Schools Principals.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Responsible for professional relationships with Pastors, staff, donors, volunteers, Parishes, and schools Staff.

Develops reports to support Stewardship and Development staff.

Create new constituent records and update records.

Flexibility in job assignments and responsibilities.

Provide follow-up support for all campaigns and appeals where appropriate.

Collaborate with the Finance Office and ensure gifts are reconciled accurately.

Good written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to organize and prioritize work.

Monitors and identifies foundation characteristics to develop strategies for developing deeper relationships with foundations.

Ability to communicate, manage time, and organize effectively.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher

Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills

Experience with, or knowledge of, human and social service disciplines

Proven ability to collaborate and work with little supervision

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and any other grant software

Ability to work within deadlines

Ability to organize and prioritize work

A minimum of three years of experience with a nonprofit corporation

Committed to the mission of the Church

Language Skills: Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills. Basic knowledge of Spanish and/or Vietnamese is a plus.

Computational Skills: Strategic thinker organized and detail-oriented.

Reasoning Ability: Effective analyzing, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with many variables in complex situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Current, valid CA driver’s license

Physical Demands: Must be able to sit for long periods of some days when working with data. Must be able to stand for long periods when conducting presentations to parish staff and other large groups. Must be able to drive to various parish locations.

Physical Environment: This position is Satellite At the Chancery, an open office in a controlled environment. At the parishes, conditions vary by parishes.

Other Requirements:
Practicing Catholicism is preferred.

Knowledge of the Catholic Church’s structure, culture, mission, and vision.

Able to work cooperatively and collaboratively with other members of the staff as well as with staff members outside the department.

Trustworthy and stellar character.
