Shift: Monday - Friday 6am - 2:30pm

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Grounds Supervisor, the Groundkeeper maintains the landscape, grounds and applicable equipment of the hospital and properties of, and assigned, to Mercy Medical Center.

Essential Duties:

• Consults with and keeps supervisor and peers informed of activities, needs and problems related to grounds and maintenance.
• Prepares and grades terrain. Applies fertilizers. Seeds and/or sods lawns. Mows, trims and repairs established lawns. Prunes trees and trims shrubs. Cultivates, plants and weeds gardens and flowerbeds.
• Sprays trees, shrubs and plants. Applies nutrients for lawn and plant growth.
• Connects, maintains, designs and installs sprinkler systems and equipment. Waters lawns, flower beds/gardens, shrubs and trees.
• Inspects and performs minor repairs to equipment such as lawn mowers, weed eaters, edgers and lawn/garden tractors.
• Cares for and maintains equipment and supplies used in the performance of duties.
• Maintains appropriate records and reports.

License/Certification:

• Must possess a valid Oregon driver’s license. Driving record is clear of any chargeable accidents involving negligence within the previous 36 months, more than 2 moving violations in the previous 12 months, more than 4 moving violations in the previous 36 months, or any felony conviction, or D.W.I/D.U.I. conviction.

Experience:

• Must be able to communicate written and orally and be able to perform simple math tasks.
• Must have a working knowledge of care and maintenance of lawns, plants and shrubs.
• Must be able to perform basic maintenance and repairs to grounds equipment.
• Must be experienced in the operation of powered equipment such as lawn and garden tractors, ditch trenchers and a backhoe.
• Small Catapillar tractor experience highly desirable.
• Applicant must have good eye/hand coordination and be able to detect unusual noises, vibrations and fatigue of equipment.

Education:

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
