Job description

Perform responsible technical work testing, maintaining, repairing, installing, and calibrating instruments, controls, gauges, electrical, and monitoring equipment used in a City plant and satellite stations.

Essential Job Functions
  • Maintain and calibrate all controls on boilers, generators, alarm systems, electrical panels, various meters, pressure transmitters, and gauges throughout the plant.

  • Maintain and make appropriate changes to the plant SCADA system.

  • Maintain, repair, and install adjustable frequency drives.

  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring, circuits, breakers, and other electrical equipment.

  • Troubleshoot and repair actuators, valves, regulators, and controllers.

  • Participate in the construction, repair, replacement, maintenance, and operation of generating units and associated auxiliary equipment and systems.

  • Positions assigned to electric production will maintain CEMS equipment.

Ancillary Job Functions
  • Maintain records on services provided.

  • Assist other units and departments in calibrating controls and gauges or repairing equipment.

  • Provide guidance and training to others; provide input on performance evaluations.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered
  • Associate or technical degree (or higher) in a related field preferred.

  • Minimum of three years relevant experience with a degree; minimum of five years relevant experience without a degree.

  • Positions assigned to Water Production must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position
  • Considerable knowledge of methods, practices, techniques, and equipment related to the calibration of instruments, controls, gauges, valve positioners, transmitters, and control loops. Considerable knowledge of safety standards and precautions pertaining to the use and operation of hand and power tools and equipment.

  • Considerable knowledge of electrical wiring; electronic devices; control and disconnect switches; low and medium voltage breakers; and safety precautions, hazards, and codes related to industrial electricity, including ARC flash protection.

  • Ability to keep records and read blueprints and engineering drawings.

  • Overall understanding of computers, PLCs, single-loop controllers, and related hardware and software.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and work as part of a team to complete required tasks.

  • Ability to work on-call and respond at all hours of the day/night.

Work Environment – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job
  • May be required to work in confined spaces or high/dangerous places.

  • May be exposed to the following circumstances: wet/humid conditions; inclement outdoor weather; vibration; extreme temperatures; oils, airborne particles/fumes; moving mechanical parts; high voltage lines and equipment; high noise levels; potentially hazardous or cancer-causing agents/chemicals high-pressure steam; compressed air/gas; flammable or explosive gases.

  • Regularly required to talk and listen.

  • Must be able to feel attributes of objects, grasp, push, stand, walk, drive, reach with hands/arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb/balance, operate mechanical equipment, and move up and down from/to sitting position on the floor.

  • Must be able to have repetitive wrist, hand, and/or finger movement to type and work on computer.

  • Must have clarity of vision, three-dimensional vision, precise hand-eye coordination, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.

  • Required to lift up to 75 pounds.

  • Positions assigned to Electric Production must be able to climb a 140’ long caged ladder.

  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

M-F, 8:00 am to 4:30 PM

$20.64/hr.- $26.35/hr. - Minimum to Midpoint, Commensurate with Training and Education
