Incumbent under limited supervision, performs advanced level work by directing a team of epidemiologists in Office of Maternal, Child and Family Health (OMCFH). Provides leadership in the areas of study design, statistical analysis, and study dissemination. Works to measure and improve the quality of OMCFH programs and projects. Maintains knowledge of external regulatory standards related to OMCFH programs and projects. Position serves as one of three lead epidemiologists and reports directly to the OMCFH Division of Epidemiology, Evaluation and Population-Based Surveillance Director (Epidemiologist 4).

Incumbent plans, assigns, and directs work; appraises performance and guides professional development of team members. Plans and implements complex epidemiologic, investigations, studies, and surveillance of OMCFH priorities including, but not limited to, maternal/child health outcomes; leading causes of death; social determinants of health; health disparity analyses; and injury related to violence and/or overdose. Incumbent assures that OMCFH specific data is complete and accurate, presented professionally, and disseminated broadly. Leads the preparation and publication of reports. Incumbent prepares federal grants and other funding requests. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties in the Epidemiologist 2 classification.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: A Doctorate degree from a regionally accredited college or university in epidemiology, public health, veterinary medicine, preventive medicine, medicine, biological, physical, behavioral or environmental sciences including at least two courses in epidemiology covering additional epidemiology principles, methods and design concepts or at least two courses in statistical design and methods courses for the behavioral sciences, or at least two publications in two different peer-reviewed journals, and at least one course in biostatistics or other research-oriented statistics course; AND five years full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in epidemiology.

OR

A Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in epidemiology, public health, nursing, biology, physical, behavioral, natural, or veterinary sciences, preventive medicine, or medicine including two courses in epidemiology and one course in biostatistics OR certification in infection control (CIC); AND ten years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in epidemiology, including five years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in management of an epidemiological program.

Substitution: Completion of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Epidemic Intelligence Service or public health prevention specialist training; AND five years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $74,490.00 - $98,288.00 per year
