Operations Controller - Carmel, IN
The Controller - Americas Commercial Operations Finance is accountable for collaborating across the Commercial Americas organization and leading the execution of strategic business plans to deliver on key financial and operational results. This role is responsible for leading multi-site Commercial SBU operations finance teams and General Accounting Shared Services. This position requires an energetic leader with strong business acumen, financial analysis, presentation, forecasting, planning, and reporting skills as well as excellent communication skills and a commitment to continual process improvement. This role will report directly to the Finance Director - Commercial SBU and also provide financial guidance and support to the VP of Operations - Commercial Americas SBU.
What You Will Do:
Business Partnership, Financial Planning, Reporting and Analysis
  • Analyzes budgets and forecasts and provides recommendations to management to drive business results and achieve plant financial goals. Analyzes trends and recommends appropriate corrective action.
  • Assist in planning, developing and execution of Annual Operating Plan (AOP), Long-Range Plan (LRP), financial objectives, investment and capital plans. Performs robust analysis to produce a challenging and attainable business plan to drive results for the business unit.
  • Provides leadership, recommendations, and oversight to ensure financial reporting and controls are appropriate, based on GAAP and applicable Financial Corporate Accounting Policies (FICAP).
  • Ensures the accurate appraisal, interpretation, and analysis of financial results, while also providing analyses, interpretation, and justification of AOP, forecasts, R&O, and LRP.
  • Oversees Commercial Operations SBU forecasting, AOP, R&O reporting and analysis with a goal of 95% forecast accuracy.
Performance Management
  • Develop robust, actionable plans relative to cost leverage, inventory turns and partner to implement actions to drive performance improvement.
  • Oversee monthly reporting and consolidation of Commercial SBU operations results, cost leverage, and associated bridges.
  • Review and partner to develop forecasts, plans, standard rates, capital investment, and business case proposals.
  • Align and ensure accurate productivity reporting on a monthly basis with finance and operations and partner to drive productivity initiatives to improve gross margins and meet or exceed objectives for productivity improvements year over year.
  • Lead development and implementation of appropriate analytical tools and data to drive improved growth and margin improvement.
  • Providing project support for multi-site initiatives.
Financial Leadership, Talent Management and Communication
  • This position leads managers of others, and is responsible for guiding the team’s performance, development and growth.
  • Provide strategic direction and personal leadership, management, and oversight over the Commercial Operations Finance & General Accounting teams.
  • Manage and develop staff. Build bench strength and promote talent across the organization. Exceptional coaching and mentoring, as well as a high level of passion for and interest in organization talent development and engagement.
  • Ability to collaborate across the organization and positively influence business outcomes. Effectively communicate with business leaders across all functional disciplines.
What You Need to Succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree with finance, accounting, economics or other business related major.
  • Candidates should have 10+ years of work experience in finance or accounting in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience in managing teams including providing direction, understanding resource capability, and successfully driving results through direct reports and other business partners.
  • Strong leadership, presentation skills, financial analysis, and ability to explain and communicate financial results in an understandable and actionable format for decision-making purposes.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, understand the vision of the organization, and turn information into effective strategies to drive business performance.
  • Strong change leadership skills required. Must have demonstrated ability to proactively drive change within a business to enhance business results.
  • Ability to influence across the organization at senior levels and to become a proactive, trusted advisor and thought leader on strategic issues in order to drive results.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: work well as part of a cross-functional team and able to interact at all levels.
  • A good understanding of financial statements and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) required.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills required with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong computer (Excel, PowerPoint, HFM or related reporting systems) and financial analysis skills.
  • Travel requirement: 20-30%
