Flexible to work later scheduled hours (10am= 6pm) and Saturday morning clinics as needed

Preferred candidates will be certified graduate of accredited school of Medical Assisting and/or Certified Ophthalmic Technician.

Experience in ophthalmic setting a plus.

The Optometric Technician will assist Optometrist's and provides patient care in accordance with established optometric standards, policies, procedures, and infection control guidelines. Duties will include:

  • Prepares patient for exam by provider, performing visual acuity, entrance exams and diagnostic testing as assigned. Transcribes and completes physician orders procedures, and infection control guidelines.
  • Provide patients with written instructions for follow-up appointments. Review medication and allergy list with patient and families before OD visits. Document changes in record as needed.
  • Interviews patients, families, or their representatives and prepare their charts with necessary signatures. Obtains and documents vital signs, chief complaint, medication needs, barrier assessment, review of health maintenance for overdue items and generates referrals per protocol. Ensure all information is in the record prior to patients visit, including but not limited to lab and radiology results, referral responses, etc.
  • Assists Optician in measurement of pupillary distance, neutralization and verification of spectacle lenses by lensometry, dispense spectacles and contact lenses, perform adjustments and repairs as necessary with oversight from Optician. Maintains stock of trial contact lenses and periodically reviews for replacement and removal of expired products.
  • Prepares exam rooms and all diagnostic testing equipment prior to start of patient care. Performs cleaning and sanitizing of exam rooms, optical and auxiliary testing room. Responsible for proper packaging of instruments to be sanitized and coordination for autoclaving. Responsible for closing down clinical, optical and auxiliary testing areas per policy.
  • Responsible for checking on equipment and supplies in coordination with Optometric Director, Responsible for instrument cleaning, packaging and sterilization per policy
  • Check out of patients at the end of visit and schedule appointments per provider request. Cross-trained for administrative support and patient registration.
