Job description
The Outdoor Adventure Manager is responsible to provide leadership to all calendar events and programs. Managers will provide direction to student workers under them and they are responsible to provide training and equip staff during any Outdoor Recreation trip or event. The Manager is to provide excellent customer service to all participants and ensure a great experience on trips.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Responsible for overseeing Outdoor Recreation calendar events and programs ensuring facility cleanliness, a high level of customer service, and effective operations.

2. Responsible for assisting in the oversight of an Outdoor Adventure student employee team. This includes assisting with interviewing, training, developing, scheduling and evaluating.

3. Assists in the maintenance and adherence of risk management procedures and policies during Outdoor Adventure trips and events, ensuring compliance with University policies.

4. Document and report incidents and injuries during Outdoor Adventure trips and events.

5. Lead CSER workers or volunteers, providing a model of hard work for them to follow.

6. Responsible for facilitation of specific Challenge Course events under direction of the full time staff.

7. Promote, plan, and evaluate Outdoor Recreation programming and events.

8. Responsible for the collection of payments through Touchnet during each shift, as needed.

9. Frequently oversee operations or events during evening, nights or weekend hours.

10. Attend all required Campus Recreation trainings and meetings.

11. Perform all other tasks assigned by the Assistant Director of Outdoor Adventures to aid and assist in the operation of Campus Recreation Facilities.

12. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.

Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies

Must be able to work up to 30 hours per week, available to work a variety of different shifts (weekends, early morning, afternoon, late night), and current CPR/AED and First Aid certified. Experience with outdoor recreation programming or facilities, management experience, and the following certifications preferred: Wilderness First Aid, Challenge Course, and Swiftwater Rescue. Effective communication both verbally and in writing. Ability to intuitively reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature. Excellent computer and organizational skills. Regularly lift 40 or fewer pounds. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
