What You'll Do
- Develops, implements, and coordinates compliance efforts concerning characterization, segregation, minimization, accumulation, and disposal of RCRA, TSCA, mixed, general, and radiological wastes
- Interacts with the appropriate organizations to maintain awareness of, and exert influence on, regulatory as well as plant standard changes concerning waste accumulation, disposal, and minimization
- Assists the site environmental compliance organization in evaluating, interpreting, and implementing programmatic changes, which affect production operations
- Monitors compliance with federal, state, local, and plant environmental and waste minimization requirements and reports non-compliances
- Serves as environmental, waste management and waste minimization SME for the department; maintains the latest training available for this position
- Develops written organizational procedures to implement compliance with regulations, orders, and site procedures
- Reviews all operational procedures to ensure that pertinent environmental and waste management issues are addressed
- Ensures that waste generated is adequately characterized, documented, segregated, packaged, labeled, and stored in accordance with approved procedures and environmental regulations
- Conducts self-assessments, evaluates results, and documents and communicates results
- Provides technical support on environmental compliance issues
- Provides interface and coordinates with the appropriate personnel to ensure all waste is properly stored and disposed
- Performs other duties as assigned to provide leadership in maintaining safe working conditions, proactively preventing injuries, contaminations and exposures and supporting the safe, efficient and effective flow of work within the production area
- To the Materials Disposition Manager for daily support of efficient, effective, and safe work execution within the production area
- To personnel within the facility for completion of tasks that support a safe and efficient work environment
- Authorized to represent Materials Disposition Manager in the coordination of all waste management activities
- Authorized to represent personnel in development of procedures and operating protocols that directly affect the work conditions and job performance

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience; typical experience ranging from 7 to 10 years
- OR Master’s degree: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience; typical experience ranging from 7 to 10 years
- OR PhD: No experience
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. Preferred Job Requirements
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and oral), and computer skills
- A working knowledge of CNS Technical Services requirements and waste acceptance criteria
- Knowledge of the manufacturing facilities and processes
